I get why the senate is doing what they are doing but why does Zuck entertain it. He could genuinely come out and say “yeh we’re selling all your shit to the highest bidder, don’t like it, quit” and barely anyone would be deactivating. Sitting on his booster seat at Capitol Hill seems like an indulgence he doesn’t have to give.

If the rumours are true and he wants to run for president he probably feels it’s good PR in the long run. Plus, if he cooperates, new laws may not be as restrictive on their business as they otherwise could be.

Although, given that Trump has established a new paradigm about what’s acceptable in a presidential nominee, taking your path might have been the better option!

I've never used Facebook either, not as a protest against Zuckerberg and his evil empire though, I just couldn't be arsed setting up an account for it.

Looks like another rare occasion where my laziness has paid off.

Not necessarily. Facebook will likely have a "ghost" profile of you. Also known as a shadow profile.

People still "tag" people who don't have facebook profiles in photos. They just type out the full name and it doesn't link to any other profile. They might also mention you by name in a post. Going over to see John Doe this afternoon. Cracking weather for it.

Enough friends do this and they'll be able to work out who you are. Throw in the facial recognition software to enhance their cause so any photo uploaded of you they'll be pretty confident they've got the right person.

I can't remember if Facebook has an "upload your email contacts" feature (such as LinkedIn), but if they do then they'll be able to further link this "John Doe" profile together with your email and your friend contacts.

From there they know most peoples likes and interests generally follow pretty closely with their friends.

They'll have a surprising amount of information on people who have not even signed up for an account.
