is the 2018 draft shaping up to be something special?

There's a few really good SA lads that should go top 10. Every draft has the ability to be good. It's all about developing players

Depends on the out look bar one or two players I can’t see any once in a generation types but I’d expect a high quality of first rounders. Lucious (spelling?) is the real prize kid is absolute certainty to be good

Super drafts are not only ranked by thos up the top but the depth and nothing will ever come close to the 2001 crop. The top end is rated really really good but supposedly it falls away a bit after the first round but it will be evident if this is true when the nationals start.

Top 2 or 3 are exceptional talents with the next 10 potentially very good footballers.
Some respected draft followers have already given good info.
Lukosius, Rankine , Walsh , King brothers, Hill , Smith, Rozee are all very good prospects , there'be an abundance off riches this year.

Ah yes, The Untouchable 2001 Superdraft, with such notables as:
Pick 4 Graham Polak
6 Ashley Sampi
9 Luke Molan
10 Sam Power
11 Richard Cole
14 Ashley Watson
15 Barry Brooks
16 Rick Ladson
18 Shane Harvey
20 Daniel Elstone
23 Charlie Gardiner
26 Arron Rodgers
27 Tom Davidson
28 Mark Powell
30 Rod Crowe
31 Joel Reynolds
...

I could go on.

2006 was better.

In keeping with every other draft... as good as this year will be, next year will be better.

Who would have thought a 16/17 year old playing against other kids perhaps gets knocked back a peg or two when they play the next year and body devlopment starts to even out more and maybe comes up against men?

Hard to believe people fall for it every year. At 17 you only need to be 3 or 4 months ahead in body development and with a baseline talent absolutely dominate a few fellow 16/17 year olds. Another year and development starts to even out and certain #1 picks start to slide "didnt come on" blah blah blah. Of course they didnt come on, he was 6 months older than his opponent half his games. Means nothing at 20 but is huge at 16/17. At 18 it can be negligible.

Not saying there wont be stars in the draft but top 5 would have gone #1 in previous drafts. Please.

Well, there is also what we saw last week. One of the top rated kids goes down with a knee. He will miss an entire pre-season which at that age is vital for getting their bodies ready. So now the question is - how far does he fall? And who will take a risk?

Yep that too.

Any team team that has a top 6 pick.

I wouldn't get too excited, Dodoro hasn't done that well with top draft picks.

Not really true. Of top 10 picks. He’s had Ryder, Heppell, Hurley as All Australians. McGrath and Heppell rising stars. Melksham has developed into a good footballer and Parish looks to be a success too.

Gumbleton and Myers ruined by injury and Francis with mental health problems but still think he’s a chance to come good. Kepler Bradley his only true failure and that was a horrendous draft anyway. No out and out superstars but a good strike rate none the less.

So he is so much better than the rest of the field that he is still worth a top 6 pick despite a very small chance of getting any senior football out of him in the first year?

I’d be shocked if any club that drafts either ben or Max king, regardless of injury, would be expecting much senior football from them in 2019.

Tim English is the skinniest ruck Ive seen basically ever. Played a couple of games first year and is now playing regularly. While still the skinniest ruck Ive seen basically ever.

So your saying that Max king will drop down the pecking order because a bottom 5 club will be concerned that he won’t play more games than 3-4 in 2019?
