AFL Autopsy Round 6: 36 Point loss to the Demons

Not one player came to help out Goddard here. Not good enough.
Exaxtly and as I mentioned, nobody went at the melbourne player who crunched parish. Not to mention being physically dominated by melbourne. Our players as a collective do not back each other up on the field. Maybe too worried about the $2000 fine?

Wasn’t that the theme from Shaw’s analysis a few weeks back? “Pay the fine” and fly the flag for your team mates?! Honestly it’s something that’s really missing from our team right now. Show some passion and loyalty on the field.

Top 3 draft pick coming up. This pathetic rabble will not win another game this year. Membership will be sent back to the club tomorrow and will not be renewing again until Worstfold and the assistants are cleaned out

Did you explain what they needed to do to get you to buy another membership?

Interested to know if you get a response.

Sadly it cuts a lot deeper than waving the flag for each other, we are stone cold last in 1%ers..... meaning we are a bunch of show pony's who don't like getting a bit of grass on our knees.

I think the way that teams have defended us since probably the halfway mark of last year with forcing us wider has had a direct impact on mentality and our ability to move the ball even when the opposition doesn't have numbers through the middle. For instance, here, Heppell has the ball and we have a 3 on 1 through the middle. Heppell doesn't actually look through the corridor though and hanballs to the wing.

That, again, presents another chance to go back to the middle where we have extra numbers. But we again go to a wide lead, despite there being two loose men in this area of the ground.

To be fair, Stringer takes a reasonable mark on the lead on a bit of an angle, but misses the set shot. I have little doubt that last year we would have had no issues going back through the middle.

Funnily enough later in the quarter, one of the few that was willing to do this (in the third quarter) was Joe and he nailed it.

3rd quarter 948.jpg

It completely opened up play for us and would have led to a relatively simple shot. If not for Baguley absolutely botching the pass over the top so badly that it put Mutch under the pump and led to a low-quality kick.

heat of the moment stuff.
i don't condone it, because its imbecilic, unnecessary and really not good for you. It's a game, don't let it stress you out so much.

The media focus and embarrassment will likely see him pull his head in.
As long as it isn't below the belt in terms of the content of abuse (family stuff, race, etc), being kicked out is enough.
If they repeat it, then ban them.

The gent should have enough pride to ban himself from footy - And I reckon there is a thousand or two at each game who should ban themselves.

ARe we banning him because we know what he said; or because he was hanging over the fence being a douchebag? As much as I'm hoping it's the latter, it would set an interesting precedent...

You are king if you call this gent a douchebag - He should ban himself if he has common sense.

Also did we injury troll Petracca?

You can insert your insult of choice, he clearly deserves it. And it's also clear he doesn't have much if any common sense.
But how long should he be banned for 2 games? 2 years? 20 years?
What's the right amount, and where's the line between lifetime and 2 years?
I'd love it if approx 80% of football crowds were banned, but if we are going to do that you'd better spell out what is and isn't acceptable in more detail than it currently is, because I see plenty of ****wits hanging over the fence, both live and on TV each week, and some of them I've seen more than once.

A lot of loudmouths in my section last game, and i thought "you're clearly not enjoying yourself, why not go someplace else?"
Were you sitting behind our bench by any chance?

There are a subsection of fans, not just at Essendon of course, but across the board who don't have much else in life.

The sad thing for a lot of them yelling, swearing and abusing is they ARE enjoying themselves. If we were going well they’d direct it at something else.

Reminds me of that line from "Fever Pitch" when Hornby talks about how surprised he was that it seemed that most of the crowd "hated, really hated" being there.

I'm still convinced we aren't too far away from some idiot jumping the fence...

I know we make jokes at their expense but they are the sort of people who can get to a game despite a stinking hangover, week in week out. They have my respect.

Fair bit of venting coming from my reserved seat area as well, probably as bad as I've ever seen it.

Was very close to taking my young fella to his first game thankfully I didn't.

Was sitting on level 3 above the goals the Essenndon suporters around me were just numb they would rather play with their phones then watch the garbage unfold.

There are not as many as there used to be.

It's funny, now that the range of abuse which can be hurled at played has shrunk the crowds at least at Etihad are almost dead quite.

Couple the 'spectacle' of the players all being in one third of the ground most of the time with the dead quiet crowds footy is definitely become a television product.

We need some soccer style chanting or karaoke classics. I don't like the idea of a purpose built soccer stadium in the south eastern suburbs for the long term position of AFL in the hearts and minds of the 3 million people out there. Sure the soccer sucks (even if it is improving) but being in those crowds is the sort of thing I see capturing the imagination of kids who go to games. The football is just weird.
