Sounds like a lot of Islamist wank to me to try and surpass the Jewish/Biblical account of King Solomon, and is probably why the countries that he reportedly ruled over are such economic powerhouses today.

Yeah except in that time Mali was renowned for their massive supply of gold (and salt) and the Mali Empire was one of the richest empires in history under Mansa Musa. On top of that, most modern historians believe Arab scholars and historians a lot more than they do Christian ones (I wonder why) and I'm fairly certain there's a number of westerners at the time who noted this actually happened on their travels in Egypt (Venetian merchants in particular). So yeah I (and just about everyone else who knows about this) am fairly certain it's not "Islamist wank".

Also if we're going to discuss empires who are still economic powerhouses should we go into detail about Greece, Italy :'(, Spain, Portugal or Mongolia?

No, I don't dispute the account of his wealth. What I'm saying is that he probably stripped the resources of his empire to accumulate it, which is why those countries are so impoverished today.

Just taught the brother in a law a few tricks and techniques I've developed in regards to songwriting and harmonising guitars.

I don't feel entirely old, past it, and decrepit! Hooray for eternal youth!

Beer anyone?

1) All gold nuggets in the empire were property of the Mansa (Sultan). Anyone who handed in gold nuggets to the royal treasury got an equal amount of gold dust. That was to ensure inflation didn't ruin Mali's economy because gold was one of the most common things you could find in Mali back then (If Venice came here for gold then they'd have a fair amount of it). Mansa Musa was also famous (according to the greatest traveler of all time, Ibn Battuta) for giving everyone he saw on the street gold coins before going to Mosque every Friday.

2) This guy wasn't the sort to strip people of anything. He actually used his wealth to build a number of schools, universities (look up Sankore University) and mosques for everyone to use. Mali only went to s**t after he died cough*France*cough.

I doubt Tool could do justice recounting the events of the first and only terrorist attack on Australian soil.

What they need to do, is find an average length of about 4:40 in their songs, and realise that albums Pornography and Disintegration could get away with songs and riffs that outstayed their welcome through the crafting of a superior balanced atmosphere and ambiance, not something Tool have shown to be proficient in yet.

Then maybe squeeze in a guitar harmony, lock that bass in to some straight 8s, experiment with brief synthesizer driven interludes, gang chorus, and we might be getting somewhere.

I'm not opposed to flirtation with a more country sound either.

Basically, they need to make their Load.

What a great album Load is.

Bleeding Me and The Outlaw Torn are amazing songs though.
