Should have got rid of Clarkson last year like the OP wanted

The Swans game would normally draw 50k+ but the forecast was terrible possibly the worst weather forecast of the year
Saturday night was unlucky being against the World Cup probably knocked 5-10k off thd crowd
Even the Melbourne game was a wet day
Somewhat related, but away games in Melbourne on friday night make it tough for travelling supporters. I had to fly Thurs, and work from melbourne office friday.

The weather was putrid as well.

1 Richmond flag = 5 flags from Hawthorn as far as impact on the city of Melbourne and impact on media and the population in general

3 years out of the finals will send the hawks panicking off to Tassie, or New Zealand or wherever else they can get a handout permanently.

I wonder if we'll survive the 7 years so that you can relive that SOS s**t again.

That said with the Bowls Club now #occupying Windy Hill and with Jack Dyer no longer with us, the Richmond 'legends' will need to find a new location to get belted by Carlton...

You can say many things about Hawthorn in the '90s but they NEVER lowered themselves to a tin rattle like the Saints, Tigers and Footscray. At the time that was beneath Hawthorn

They did however have almost 3000 members vote to merge with Melbourne. So there is that....

Ah yes the famed merger vote. Well Hawthorn members bravely are the only club ever to vote against a merger in AFL history almost 2-to-1 but I guess that gets lost on many of the simpletons doesn't it.

As for Richmond well they didn't even give their members the option to vote on their future. They just went and tried to find another Alan Bond :)

And as for the Cats (who cant draw a decent crowd to any game that isn't carried by Hawthorn) thank christ the Cats had the Bendigo Bank hey? Without the bank forgiving millions in debt you would be alongside Geelong West as an irrelevance in football history

Public's reaction to Hawthorn & Richmond winning a premiership :

Hawthorn - Not another one bloody hell I hate Hawthorn.
Richmond - I can't ******* believe they won one.

You can spin it any way you want, but even a simpleton can see that in 1996 almost 3000 Hawthorn MEMBERS voted for Hawthorn to no longer exist. Sorry.

Oh please stop this rubbish

You were 1 Don Scott away from merging with Melbourne, and even now, you have only survived by relocating to Tasmania

Cool.

You were a tin rattle and Jack Dyer away from folding. And now Jack Dyer is no longer with us :(

Did you go to the Jack Dyer farewell game against Port Adelaide in 2003?

Richmond 3.1 8.4 12.6 16.8 104 Sun 24-Aug-2003 2:10 PM Att: 15,920 Venue: Docklands
Port Adelaide 5.5 8.7 13.15 18.16 124 Port Adelaide won by 20 pts [Match stats]

Cool story. How many voted against the merger.

Wasn't it 1999 that the Cats pulled that Whiskas s**t with Budda Hocking to avoid liquidation?

Hardly surprising, we are talking about a club that sells home games to Hawthorn's home ground every season (MCG) in order to draw a semi decent crowd.

When was the last time the Cats drew a 70k plus home and away game that did not involve Hawthorn?

The only Hawthorn reserved seat memberships available are on level 4.

Level 1 and 2 are always half empty other than for the biggest games but all those seats are sold.

Amazing how footy fans and the media were ok when Hawthorn dominated football with 4 flags yet a single Richmond flag has sent the footy world into fruit loop mode.

Media have articles on how to beat Richmond on the TV,really funny.

One Richmond flag is like any other team winning five in a row.

It is amazing. And it hasn’t happened for so long, like it was a whole year since exactly the same thing happened with the bulldogs o_O

All this shows is fans of so called 'Big' clubs are offended from a club which was tiny in 1960, and now only middling according to this thread, has taken the lions share of the success.
Middling and agile or big and slothful, take your pick.

Ironic is Rchmond fans celebrating their sudden size, yet also wanting to label others bandwaggoners
Richmond were already drawing bigger crowds than Hawthorn even when Hawthorn were winning flags

Actually more often then not they were not. And that was after Hawthorn was hamstrung from a home and away attendance perspective but playing 4 homers at a venue that holds less then 20k - albeit spectacularly profitable as it is. No Fighting Tiger Funds needed at Glenferrie

Since 2000 Hawthorn have only averaged higher home attandences than Richmond twice in 2002 and 2010

Keep on deflecting.

I guess it isn’t surprising that 3000 members voted to end your clubs existence. This is a club after all that takes multiple home games every year to a different state with no regard for their members in Melbourne.

Say we've relocated to Tassie again and see what happens, for bonus points :) throw in a pet membership troll

What a snobbish thing to say. I'm proud of how normal Dogs fans rattled tins and showed fight when our club was nearly taken away from us. A small fan base from a low socioeconomic area fought to save their club as soon as talk of a takeover began.

I'd rather rattle tins and show some passion then do bugger all to fight a merger until Don Scott finally awoke an apathetic fan base. It's hard to fathom that a club with such a huge supporter base only 5 years after an absolutely dominant era nearly merged and actually had thousands of fans vote to do so.

Yeah im with you, whats wrong with tin rattling to save your club
A lot happened in the 90s Hawks were lucky to get out of there intact, but they did and have thrived
Hopefully they wont make those mistakes again and hopefully the supporters will remember

After the events of 1996 I don't think any hawthorn member (supporter) will ever forget or let it happen again.
Much much stronger club for it though.
