Rumour Adelaide Crows camp

It’s also, you know, football. Sure it’s involving $200,000 salaries and then some and all this attention but fundamentally no one was hurt by this loss - probably some dickhead drinking himself stupid after it, but I’d say more Richmond fans had issues than Crows ones.

That’s my issue with this sort of coach: this self-styled alpha male who is a dangerous combination of arrogance and attitude. You see it with guys like James Hird too, and Goodwin at Melbourne and Pyke (who was a little squib as a player, by the way) who take this s**t to the extreme. You lack any sort of self-awareness or ability to think outside footy as it’s all you’ve known and the only thing you’ve been told you’re good at.

Any person with a shred of intelligence would go ‘what the **** is this wanky new age, culty s**t?’ or even a bogan on a list would say ‘that sounds pretty gay!’ Ultimately this is just football. Why would you do anything like this? Make people cry and come up with weird hypotheticals about people dying or how you’d react to this or that...

****in idiots.

You’re gonna get a better reaction to a loss if you pretend you’re the Kalgoorlie Cats and take off to Kosa Nui for two weeks drinking Thai buckets. Literally. You’ll get more bonding out drinking and holidaying than almost anything else: laughing, working out how to tell someone it’s their round and they’re a tight arse, trying to get back home pissed... I’m not joking.
If there was such a place as "Kosa Nui" over here...just saying.

the usual meatheads on 5AA, steven rowe and mark bickley, were interviewing some crows player on 5AA, doesn't matter who (just one of the many plain blonde boys), don't even remember who. some casual chatting and rowe finds out the players didn't even do a world cup themed activity this year!! usually the boys have some fun, pick a team in the raffle to get behind, bit of socialization. but the player said not this year, they just did some golf thing (only forced to socialise with each other once this year - phew!). rowe comments "that's what's wrong with the club! not having enough fun together! we've sorted it bicks!" in jest, but not realising he's actually probably on the money. those blokes go to work to work, when they 'failed' last year their business paid for them to be brainwashed by some scientology s**t to "toughen em up", that's how far away from a regular footy club it is

I am so confused by this post.

Yeah Pyke was knocked out by Ablett in the 92 GF but came back on played pretty well but a squib. Also won B+F along with a runner up B+F at WC and a B+F at Claremont, doesn't sound like a squib to me. Squib is more someone who has never done anything of note badmouthing people who have actually achieved something.

Thanks for the link. Explains a lot for me. Including they may have signed a bundle of non disclosure agreements!

I'd been waiting for an explanation around what went on here too.

The question remains...who in charge at Adelaide thought this would be a good idea?

And as for Eddie Betts - with a pregnant wife and kids at home, if they said "hand over the phone", I hope he said "this is a footy camp, not boot camp, and I'll thank you to get f*cked"

Did they have a choice? The guys were bused in and blindfolded so even if they wanted to piss off they had no transport no idea where they were.

Just reading the report of a Mankind camp the Adelaide one was said to be a modified version of, some of those activities and events they used could be confronting for anyone. But don't underestimate the effect on the Indigenous boys with what they were confronted with (not included in article) which I think is a bit more than just not having a phone for two days to contact the missus.

What is the extra impact on the aboriginal players? Did they find it patronising or something?

Didn't the post also imply that Pyke knows nothing outside of football. My limited understanding is that he was very successful outside of football.

Not knowing what actually went on in the camp but extra to all the weird crap that was mentioned, naming a deceased person (up to a year or two after death), treatment and respect of any that are initiated or elders, and for some others taking on spiritual emblems (natural object, plant or animal that is inherited by members of a clan or family) may have caused offense, depending what the fkkers were doing. Something with the "talking stick"?

It's was the use of an aboriginal artifact as a talking stick, which belonged to the tribe of one of the players.

I know it's easier when you're winners to seem this way, but compare that to Richmond last night.

Conca goes down, while down, the players sent one guy (Astbury) over to be with and support him, and as soon as the docs have him on the cart, all the players go to him to give him their support (possibly notable that the Captain wasn't on the ground to lead them in all that, they just did it).

As they get back from half time, instead of the captain giving them a rev up, they go with their new (few weeks old) 'tradition' of having Higgins tell them all a joke so they can have a bit of a laugh and relax.

Little things to be sure, but it speaks to a team that genuinely enjoys each others company and cares for each other.

I also remember that after the GF parade last year, a few people commented that while the Richmond guys seemed to be relaxed and enjoying the experience, the Adelaide guys were, well, crowbots...rigid and stiff, as if it was all just an ordeal they had to get through.

I watched the parade in the city and made the same comment at the time. Richmond seemed very relaxed whereas the Adelaide players looked as though they were forcing themselves to try and relax.

Playing at your home ground will do that.

So they buggered up in the grand final. It's an isolated incident of a team failing to show up in a game. The issue is that there is no game in the following week for redemption. The fact they needed to have one of these 'camps' for a poor performance is quite astonishing. Fair enough if they were not unified for the year, but they were a complete unit until it counted. Just ridiculous that they resorted to this after the GF and completely ruined their 2018 season and soured relationships between the club and some players

Don’t think it was ridiculous at all. Everyone tries to get an edge. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt.

Rightio.

Because? You’ve beaten us once in the last three years and that was with a last second goal and with half our team out. Riiiiight. Massive.

Nah, because your ra ra ra cheering and talking up of the crows makes you look stupid when they don't perform.

Because your team is s**t, won’t make the 8, having to have press conferences about Collective Minds but still give the old “I am not going to give any details” when asked a question and yes, lose to Port.
Which part did I leave out?

what does any football fixture have to do with what you quoted him for? you were wrong, pretending that other people were being hysterical about the camp, when in fact it was as hilarious as we all knew.
