Why did we pick Polson, look at how well Powell-Pepper played

Wrong thread for it... SPP is a first rounder, Polson is a third or fourth rounder

I reckon I'm going to start making these posts at random.

"Why did we pick Cripps, look how good Boyd played tonight"

"Why did we pick Murphy, look how good Harris Andrews played tonight"

"Why did we pick Dow, look how good Curnow played tonight"
This joke

Lol wooosh a few times

A few ya reckon …. rofl …. the last 6 weeks has been a woosh …… except Thy's one on me … I was clearly sleep deprived so it doesn't count!

The 'how did we pass on Richards and select O'Brien?' narrative is bizarre.

First, they're both half a season in. Richards has started well, but they're 5% into their AFL careers. LOB has plenty of upside.

Secondly, this BS usually only happens to team that are struggling. Finally today a story on 'how did Curnow slip to 12?' Surprised they didn't have a go at us for passing him over twice.

Thirdly, where are all the 'how did 12 clubs pass over Cripps?' stories?

The media are just lazy group think clowns. The ones who can tell a proper list build are few and far between (Dunstall, Brereton, Carey and Lyon).

Sorry, I don’t want to sound like a broken record BUT Ed Richards for the Bulldogs was excellent tonight. Why did we take LOB instead of him?
Is it because SOS is a bit of a snob and got sucked in by the boy who went to Geelong Grammar?
For the sake of our club let’s hope not...but I’m not so sure
LOB trained with the boys prior to the draft and clearly rated him, give him time to grow he will be a gun

The media and fans act on what they see today.

Thank **** football clubs are run with the next 5-10 years in mind.

Immediate overreaction is what doomed this club to begin with. For example, "Oh the club needs ready made KP's RIGHT NOW... Let's draft 4 project KP's instead of best available."

Ed Richards isn't the first ready made footballer to be taken in the teens and have a great rookie season (and then plateau shortly there afterwards). The problem is as the more potential laden kids start to catch up physically Richards low upside means he's much closer to his maximum output from day one. That's great if you want a consistent proven performer and have high potential prospects elsewhere but for a club like Carlton who needs to maximize future potential talent over trying to challenge for the finals right away it's absolutely the right move to draft in an O'Brien ahead of him.

I'm not so sure that O'Brien's long term upside is any higher than Richards'.

Both will be quality footballers for 10-12 years.

Richards' line-breaking speed and balance is really nice.

See again interesting point Wick. Say Lucozade is playing at 90% already ….. yet some other Pioneers numpty is playing at 60%, but still gets drafted.
Who's ceiling is higher?

Argh! does my head in …. I need another beer … but none the less I will ponder this because it is yet another list mangler problem. "Projected" talent V the here and now.

Murphy set to re-sign with us next week, or early the following week.
The only offer he was considering was with Geelong.
I hope this is true. Deserves to be a one club player.

In my opinion, O'Brien hasn't even scratched the surface of what he's going to be capable of long term. Soapy V - please correct me if I'm wrong - but I see someone who will eventually be a modern day Craig Bradley in this team. A great winger who also gets a lot of his footy on both flanks and breaks the game open with speed, skill, and those booming kicks.

I think and hope so too.

We desperately needed someone today who can find/create their own space and then use the ball effectively, a prime LOB.

Has the running power of Bradley so maybe. All I know is expectation was 5-8 games this year so well ahead. Needs some size and strength to handle AFL and is working hard on it. Benefits of getting games has been huge. Another pre season or 2 will make a massive difference to him. At the moment not showing the poise or decision making levels he did as a junior and that's purely because he is being pushed around and fatigued. Still very very young. Coaches are very happy with progress.

Dare I say I think he plays a bit like Josh Kelly in that he will run and link and his ball use will be of a high level. Josh is now 23 and 90 games. His first 2-3 years were okay but nothing like last 2.

Lochie will kick goals as well as a midfielder. Like others patience is needed but very happy at this stage.

It's all a sum of the parts exercise.

As it stands, the CFC currently have 2 players that require stopping at all costs; Cripps & CCurnow.
Dow shouldn't be too far behind and then we have Docherty and to my mind, Marchbank, just at this stage.

Not every player has to set the wheel rolling, but just to be a cog in the machine.
I don't really care for too many individuals in a team sport, but just the right parts of the total sum.

Should SPS and Weitering reach potential, we may find ourselves with plenty of match-winners on the park. The trick is then up to the coaches.

Thanks very much for the update Soapy.
Really appreciated.
I personally think he is coming along nicely and look forward to him having a long and successful career in the Navy Blue.

I think a fit and/or developed Docherty SPS Williamson Dow Marchbank Kennedy Fisher Weitering will make a massive difference to our performance. A Cuningham Pickett Lang or Garlett even more
