FOOTBALL fans’ worst fears have been realised after it was revealed that Qatar 2022 would indeed be the first-ever (northern) winter edition of the tournament.
The 2022 World Cup will kick off on November 21 with the final played on December 18 — just a week before Christmas.

How are the domestic competitions going to work? 1 month break for the WC?
Would need to be more than a month you’d think. Taking into account preparation, training camps etc for each team. Which is usually around 2 weeks before the tournament.
In addition, there’d need to be a rest period afterwards too. Overall, a break of perhaps 6-8 weeks could be on the cards.

Both of them were not starters in 98, yet to peak etc. Henry would be there in a heartbeat if that was the case
And so would Pires!
Henry played every game, either as starter or sub, except the final. He was due to come off the bench in the final but but Desailly was sent off at 68 minutes so France went defensive. He scored 3 goals whereas Giroud hasn't got one yet.

It's ******* ridiculous and needs to be fixed. The tournament should be taken from Qatar as soon as this current World Cup is over.

We knew this years ago? From an Australian perspective it should be good. Better weather to roll out of bed in the middle of the night for and the media will give it full attention with no AFL and NRL games.

I agree. Henry was still raw at France 98 but is a much better player than today's Giroud who is the weak link in Les Bleus.

Didn't they release the theoretical schedule for the PL with a winter WC and there was almost a game every day for some patches? Ridiculous.

Panama lost all 3 games in their first world cup tournament. scored 2 and conceded 11. Needed penalties to beat Colombia missing their best player. Same old England. Scoring from set pieces and penalties etc.

Qatar I can't see many people travelling to. Comes off as a less interesting version of United Arab Emirates. Who wants to walk around Westfield shopping centres for a month?
