How does that work out when Murf, Boydy and Crammers are gone?
We got Trengove in which almost balances out Crameri. Doesn't account for Murphy and Boyd though.
My guess is that (a) other clubs have refreshed with youngsters at least as aggressively as us (the list is average age ranking, not average age) and (b) we were already close to the bottom so it was going to be hard to get much lower, especially when those lower clubs have also lost ageing players.

Could you post the average ages and average games played? Would be worth a look if available.

other teams have also lost their older players - eg. Priddis, Mitchell, Hodge, Gibson, Swallow, Maric, etc.

Average meat pie consumption per VFL/AFL game by ivan rassmussen

Does anyone have stats for meat pie consumption at VFL/AFL games in the previous 45-50 years? I know my downward trend is related to attending with kids and associated costs, etc, but I'm curious to know what the trends are. I still enjoy a pie btw, probably only manage 1-2 per season these days.
I estimate I've attended around 5-600 games in my life (h&a, finals, pre-season, night series, practice matches). I reckon my best effort was 4 pies vs West Coast R22 1988 at Western Oval. That is probably one of only 4-5 games I have ever consumed alcohol at as well, standing with non-Dogs mates behind the Barkly St goals (something I rarely did), and got interviewed by a young female reporter from the local paper as Eagles goals kept soaring over my head. Only game I ever went home p1ssed from, but the beers and pies didn't even touch the sides...

Tbh, I'm not even sure why I just posted that...!

Thanks.
Apart from the outlier (Gold Coast) those ages are pretty closely clustered around 24.0. It makes sense when you are looking at a full and balanced list of 44. I suspect we will see greater age (and perhaps game) separation when we look at the average age/games of the chosen 22 from each club in any given match. Especially as injuries start to affect who's available.

This characteristic rise and fall gives rise to the classic shape that statisticians like to call the pie curve ...

I have been trying to construct a list of who kicked the first goal in every final we have played. I was able to obtain most of this information from old Sporting Globe newspapers from the internet and Melbourne State Library. I have some gaps which hopefully a few others might know about so I can add them to the table later. I have seen some games from the 1980s onward on YouTube but still some gaps remain. I have used the great AFL Tables website for all finals from 2008 onward. I have been fortunate with The Sporting Globe's method of setting out a quarter by quarter analysis of all games which allowed me to go right up to 1976 before I had trouble finding some info. I have put the minute mark of the first quarter wherever it was mentioned.

Brett Montgomery and Chris Grant feature three times whilst Harvey Stevens, Mitch Hahn and Liam Picken feature twice.

Was just having a little play on the AFL website and was quite shocked to find out that we are currently #1 in the competition for disposal efficiency, marks inside 50 and total marks. Also, have had the least clangers in the comp.

Just found it interesting how statistically we're actually going alright in most categories except for contested possessions and goalkicking accuracy.

It's not all that surprising.

Averaging 19 disposals over your first three games in 2018 would be similar to averaging 15 disposals over your first three games in 2000. It's a much different game than 20 years ago, and one of the major statistical changes are the higher amount of disposals per player, per game.

Then he would only be better than 15 out of that list :thumbsu:

With Bont announced as being available for the weekend, it looks like we'll have three players in as many weeks playing their 100th game while also captaining the side. Surely that's never happened before.

I have never been very good at music but here I am blowing my own trumpet. I have just created a quiz on the Sporcle website in which you have to name as many Footscray/Western Bulldogs players as you can who have kicked a goal for us in a finals game. There is 153 names in total and all names are listed alphabetically. There will be some names you will know straight away without having to read about their playing career. Anyway, if you fancy yourself with Bulldogs player history, you might feel it worthwhile having a go. I hope 12 minutes is long enough. In case you have never played any Sporcle quizzes before, you only need to type in a surname.
