Injury Off Legs Report 2018 - Stretch that toe

I reckon we're drawing a long bow when blaming S and C staff for injuries occurring.
Not having a crack at you mate but it seems to be the in thing these days. To blame anyone for a players injury is just utter bullsh*t IMO.
You can train them, condition them and do everything to try and prevent injuries but they happen in EVERY sport. Mostly without notice and often without reason.

I do agree with that, but the whole saga with Viney has left a sour taste in my mouth.

Most definitely poorly handled was the Viney case and the medical staff should have held firm in not letting him come back as early as he did but I do wonder if the player is allowed too much say because it sounds like Viney would have knocked the medical team out one by one if they held him back. I think he's as much to blame, a point he's made in hindsight.

What's the report on Harmes Hand?
Apparently unlikely to play but the club is remaining hopeful.

Hannan is a test.

Hunt is available for selection.

Don't know if anybody is listening to Crunch Time on SEN right now, but Geelong's Harry Taylor is talking about the recovery process of his plantar fascia. They are taking a completely different approach to what Viney took. They are cognisant of the importance of the plantar fascia for foot strength and stability and they are working hard to to rehabilitate it. Harry acknowledged it as something important to heal properly and taking his time. No mention of the release surgery that Viney had. Goes to show, we f***** this up completely...

Surely Viney would have been treated by specialists in this field who are independent of the club though

They took a gamble, and they lost. Some people can get away without their plantar fascia, many can't. It's like the LARS ACL surgery - there are doctors who do it, and it gets the patient back in action sooner, but it's not accepted as best practice, it has poor durability, and it comes with risks of adverse (permanent) outcomes.

Then a highly unusual gamble to take with such a young player with many years to go. Really hope this situation improves

I'm surprised a week later you can stomach anything involving Geelong

Also yes, we ****ed up. We knew it then and we know it now

I've been pretty much a lone voice on this forum regarding plantar fascia release surgery. The "we f***** it up" talk has been almost exclusively about him coming back too soon. He did come back too soon, yes, but it's more than that. It was a bad medical decision and I think it has compounded an already bad situation.

But why is it your job to shut down commentary?

Not shutting anything down? Have at it

I've appreciated your insights into these types of injuries and Viney's situation in particular.

I had a bad platar fascia and was going to jump off something and snap it. So glad now that I didn't, came good eventually.

Me too, and I’m not even sporty. Can hurt like hell. There was a point where just putting any weight on the heel would literally bring tears to the eyes.
