Injury Off Legs Report 2018 - Stretch that toe

Aren't you glad you let it heal and now you can resume your elite athletic career though?
Well yes. To be fair though, I’m taking your advice on trust because it’s not like you can ever take the exact same person and compare the non-surgical versus surgical results.

Have the release surgery on your other peg... done
Actually that’s not your worst idea. Which isn’t to say that it isn’t terrible.

But if MFC have any spare change in the post-pokies era, I wouldn’t say no to being a guineapig for a spot of experimental treatment. I’ll start off with a left knee full reco and a right knee LARS and we can see which way I’m leaning in three months.

Injury report isn't great reading. Sounds like Hibberd playing even one match before finals* would be a good result and Viney seems even more doubtful than that.

On Harmes: "the wound looks very good".

THE RECOVERY of Melbourne co-captain Jack Viney from a toe injury is going slower than expected, with the tough midfielder yet to resume running as he bids to return this year.

Meanwhile, defender Michael Hibberd is pushing to return before the end of the home and away season.

Viney, 24, experienced early signs of bone stress after round 16 in the same toe on his right foot that forced him to miss the first eight rounds of 2018.

Demons football manager Josh Mahoney said last week Viney would start running at the end of that week, but that timeframe has been pushed back.

MEDICAL ROOM Who's on your club's injury list?

"Jack hasn't quite started running yet, so his return to play will be a bit dictated by his reloading," elite performance manager David Misson told melbournefc.com.au.

"Clinically, he's looking a lot better and we're hoping to start him running either late this week or early next week."

Hibberd, who was named in last year's Virgin Australia AFL All Australian team, faces a race against time to help the sixth-placed Dees in their bid for finals.

"Hibbo has been doing some good stuff in rehab – some good running. He's probably still two to three weeks away," Misson said.

Starting to get the sense that Viney's foot may not be okay.

This is why you never have the "sports scientist" running a medical team. How many careers are going to get stuffed under his watch?

There doesn't seem to be any progress in injury management. Seems like instead of solving them they are just shifting them to different areas.

No Viney for the rest of the year then it seems.

Hopefully Hibberd is back by the finals and we can swap him for Joel Smith. Add in Vanders or Kent for JKH and that strengthens us up a tad.

Re Milkshake's replacement, who's been playing best at Casey out of Kent, Bugg, Hannan or Vanders? Or could Baker come in for a debut or is he more of a full-time mid rather than mid/fwd?

Or is it a chance for Balic to have a run, or an extra tall (Weid) to come in with May out?
