The reigning premiers head to the toilet bowl of a stadium that is known as The Golden Throne, to battle the Gold City Royals in round 3. The Royals are coming off a road loss to the undefeated Demons in round 2 while the Roys are two from two after taking down the lowly Dragons in a tight contest last week. Both teams are keen to get another win in round 3 and push to get an early jump on the competition ladder.

FORM GUIDE

Gold City Royals

The Royals will be looking to bounce back from last week’s loss to the Demons after a last quarter fadeout saw them go down by 7 points. Round one was a different story for the Royals, grinding the Bombers into the turf, only allowing 2 goals in 4 whole quarters of qootball. Their defence was astute in the first game of the season, with Bipolarbear and 3121 premiers the only two players to give up a goal for the whole game. Week two was not the result the Royals were looking for, giving up two late goals in the 4th quarter, to go down to the Demons by just 7 points. MWPP had a great game for the Royals, picking up 18 touches and booting 4 goals for the visitors. Bob Cobb will be looking to lift this week after managing just 1 disposal and 3 DT points in the loss.

Roys FFC

The reigning champs couldn’t have asked for a better start to the year, winning both of their opening two games against the Hawks and the Dragons respectively. The bowie man has lead his troops in the right direction after winning the flag and is positioned well to go back to back this season. Week one saw the Roys scraped passed the Hawks by just 4 points in the Match of the Round thanks to a late miss by Noobz0r. Week two was another close win for the Roys, as they held off the fast finishing Dragons in a 3 goal win on the road. Old timer Mobbs was a standout for the Roys, picking up 29 disposals, 7 marks and 102 DT points from centre half back. On the other end of the spectrum, there were a few Roys that are looking for a great game with royboy2, _Mike_ and Klim combining for just 12 DT points.

Last Time They Met

Season 25 Round 9 - Roys FFC 20.10 (130) defeated Gold City Royals 15.10 (100)

Last 5 Games
Gold City 3, Roys 2

Who to look out for this week:

Gold City Royals

Blacky – the handsome full forward booted 4 goals from 5 kicks on the weekend and is currently third in the Fred Medal with 8 goals from two starts. Coming up against fitzroybowiedog who has given up just 6 goals in the first two round, this is shaping up to be the match up on everyone’s lips.

Thatsapaddlin – The young midfielder is looking to bounce back into some form after just 16 touches last week. Coming up against a talented midfield, he will likely come up against either TedDougChris or 3KZ is Football who combined for 51 disposals and 2 goals last week.

Roys FFC

Stoods – A quality midfielder who stood up for the Roys last week, gathering 30 disposals, 10 marks and 2 goals in a clear Best on Ground performance. He will be coming up against an experienced midfielder in new skipper 3121 premiers.

Mobbs – Again, the old timer wound back the clock last week and was close to best on ground against the Dragons. Expect him to continue this fine form, taking on league admin Cloud_ in what is going to draw all eyes this weekend.

Prediction

Another high quality affair this is shaping up to be, I expect the Roys to continue their winning ways and go three for three. Don’t let this blind your vision though, as the Royals are a quality side. This is likely to be a decent and exciting match up, but if Blacky gets a hold of things early, this one could be over quickly.

Tip
Roys by 12 points.

This mob have been up and about for way too long. The regression to the mean of their very mediocre existence is bound to start this week.
What about the Roys though?

Hello team, this week we are playing the Roys. Somehow someway they managed to pinch a premiership last season in a moment of league weakness. The fact that irrelevant plebs like Mobbs can kick a crucial final quarter goal in a grand final and a perennial spud like fitzroybowiedog can sweep the awards is a testament to the fact that NOTHING is impossible in the Sweet FA. Let's hammer these pretenders and get back onto the winners' table.

How many seasons have the Royals played now? Feels recent (to me) when the club was spawned forth, but it's probably some 10 seasons ago. Should have developed a pretty meaty history by now.

Aren’t they that team that folded?
After an abysmal Season 08 in which we lost the first 8 games and Fred was pretty much our only active player, the Roys chose to enter recess for Seasons 09 & 10. Replaced at the time by the Mod Squad. Resumed in Season 11 amongst much fanfare and started bringing in blokes like Reardo to reignite the flame. Pilot Light mode since then.

This all happened before your team was born.

I think so. If I’m wrong can you remind me to bring this up in the committee?
Hey they totally did fold after all!
Season 09 (2008-2)
League goes back out to 10 teams, with the Alberton Swamprats and AFL All Stars re-admitted. Roys fold, while the Mod Squad is formed under Fred and the Bigfooty Bombers officially change their name to the Baghdad Bombers. TFLUA-Tiger steps down as admin and appoints Baghdad Bombers captain Doggiesin08 to the position.
What's-a matter you? Hey! Gotta no respect?

10th season.

And while we haven’t been looked after by the sim we have made up for it with quality output.

Welcome back to your home
It’s always a bittersweet moment coming back to The Golden Throne. The Royals are such a great club and players like Blacky are exactly why they will always be a special outfit. I may well have been a Premiership player at The Royals, if only Marlowe hadn’t attempted to mock the Qooty Gods and draft okeydoke7 to The Royals on the cusp of the finals. The Curse of Okeydoke took it’s toll and the rest is history. Fortunately The Roys were in need of a HERO and I was able to return and almost single handedly win them a Premiership last season.
