Why can't Richmond break any of our attendance records even with more members?

IMO Richmond sold a heap of 3 game memberships on the back of winning their first flag since 94BC, but the pain endured in the 5 previous years helped as well, not winning a single final, losing a final to 9th, Richmond were the laughing stock of the AFL, Carlton fans laughed at them FFS.

Then they win a flag and most every one of their fans wants a piece of it so they go an buy a membership, it explains why their crowds don't quite add up to their membership base, with 100k members they should be smashing every attendance record in the book, this year they'll break our 7th all time record, 7th. Lol.

Collingwood are bigger then Richmond and Essendon. In 2010 the biggest clubs had 50,000 members. If Collingwood won a flag in a couple of years we will get well over 100,000 members easily. Collingwood have been the most supportered Victorian club 9 out of the last 10 years.

For those Richmond supporters who say Richmond are bigger no you are not.

In regards to Essendon they are our biggest rivals supporter base wise but are they bigger then Collingwood? No

In 1993 when they won the premiership they were still behind Collingwood in attendance’s and the pies played 8 home games at vic park. This year they are 130,000 behind Collingwood in attendance’s.

If we look at the big for clubs with latent supporter based it is;

1.Collingwood
2. Essendon
3. Hawthorn
4. Carlton
5. Richmond

In terms of engaged fans who buy memberships and attend games it is;

1. Richmond
2. Collingwood
3. Essendon
4. Hawthorn
5. Carlton

Collingwood has the biggest supporter base out of Victorian club around Australia. We have the biggest following in Victoria and are massive in every state and territory. Richmond who would be the 3rd most popular club in Victoria have less supporters then hawthorn and Carlton (only just) is because they both have very strong supporter bases interstate

As often as not they place Essendon ahead of Collingwood so in fact it is simply inaccurate to say every poll they do clearly puts Collingwood no. 1.

Its maths dude.

Since 2009 Collingwood have been ahead of Essendon in this poll baring last year.

I have always said even in the late 90’s when Collingwood were last on the ladder wait till Collingwood make finals we will shoot straight past Essendon in attendance’s and in 2002 we did!

Essendon are a big club but Collingwood have a bigger latent bandwagon fan base. Collingwood in 2010-11 were drawing much bigger crowds then Essendon in 1999-2001!

Exactly the same with pies and tigers. Collingwood’s bandwagon in terms of attendance’s to games was massive bigger then any other club!

If Essendon were operating out of the MCG and won a flag they would comfortably outdraw every Vic club including Richmond and Collingwood.

I can't prove that simply because they are in the Dome for keeps but I am convinced of it.

80,000 members operating out of the Dome a couple of years after druggie gate and with no success for a decade or more........ Remarkable.

Collingwood needed a flag to do it.

Richmond? Remarkable ability to actively engage the base. Truly remarkable. The famous "Army" is about atmosphere and noise rather than simple numbers. However nationally we are way behind. Perhaps that is changing a bit with the current success but that underlying reality will remain. Of all the great Melbourne clubs Richmond remains closest to its suburban roots in terms of fanbase.

The drug saga helped Essendon. But no they are not the biggest club in Victoria. Collingwood are. I am extremely confident that if the pies win a premiership in a couple of years we will break 100,000 members

This has already been proven not to be the case after the 93 flag. Couldn't outdraw pies playing out of Vic park. The "if they were playing out of the G" thing is an excuse. The druggie gate actually worked to increase their membership as so often happens with adversity - look at Hawthorns membership and attendances after they nearly merged with Melbourne. It creates an us against them mentality. Tigers are the trendsetters when it comes to attendance and membership.

Capacity plays a role. Plus not everyone who goes to a game supports either side. Big matchups attract quite a few neutrals. But Richmond definitely fit in this department.

Lol again the mighty Richmond will only end up being the 6th or 7th most watched side of all time. Pretty good for a club who has 180,000 less fans then the pies around Australia. The pies are still the only club to break 1.2 million fans during the home and away season 5 times. In our premiership year we got over 1.3 million. What? Richmond will end up about 120,000 less then the pies in 2010!!! No way not with a team who supposedly has 100,000 members lol

We had 46,000 v port same weather wet and cold when the tigers played Brisbane and you guys only drew 32,000!!

Try breaking over 1.2 million Atleast once or even 1.3 million like the pies!

No team is bigger then Collingwood when we are flying! Heck in 2008 the pies finished 8th and drew 1,246,000 during the home and away season more then Richmond who will not even draw 1.2 million.

Pies have 660,000 fans in Australia biggest club out of the Victorian clubs. Richmond is the 5th biggest with 487,000! Richmond = minnows with thousands and thousands of pet members. You could not even sellout the Essendon game with your 100,000 members lol
