Neither Thiem or Novak have any pedigree in doubles so they didn't really have a choice. At 2-0 up no point risking Thiem in doubles when he should close it out comfortably in the reverse singles.

He's giving it his all as always, but thiem is the 2nd best clay court player of the past 2-3 years. He's awesome on this surface.

Nah, just the mental instability of a Croatian. As soon as he lost that set he was shot and it was match over for him.
Coric is doing the same now in the decider. A set all and leading 5-1 in the third with two breaks and he has s**t himself and lost 5 games in a row.
