I saw there was some discussion regarding this in the ODI status thread so thought it might be a good idea to create a thread.
This years edition has 6 participants up from 5 in previous editions. The 6 include the 5 test playing nations from Asia (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka) as well as winners of the qualifying tournament Hong Kong.
The 6 have been split into two groups with the top 2 from each group going through to a further "super 4" stage. The super 4 participants have already been decided with Sri Lanka having been eliminated after being smashed by both Afghanistan and Bangladesh. Sri Lanka should probably consider themselves incredibly lucky that they automatically qualified for the World Cup given their performances in ODI cricket lately.
In the other group India and Pakistan have already qualified after both nations defeated Hong Kong however HK gave a good account of themselves v India. India play Pakistan tonight to rekindle one of the biggest rivalries in world sport.
