The Malbun wankfest if they made it to a GF would have been unbearable...
Thank ****

So this year it’ll be either HatedInterstateFranchise or BigVicClub... that bodes well for a “Melbourne Miracle” next year. Gil’s pre-season planning has surely begun. Yes he could aim for GWS but who knows which priority fills his (money)bags more.

Watch it happen, and/or be “engineered” if you like conspiracy theory nonsense, against us, since our self-bewildering style of play makes it easier to hide “game changing” decisions behind inevitable, almost expected clanger-play on our part.

And that’s my *most* optimistic scenario for 2019. That we actually make finals, only to be an irrelevant speed bump in W1 or W2 for someone’s fairytale, while Melbourne and GWS ride all the way to a GF. We don’t play to grab a game by the scruff of the neck, so we’ll continue to get what we deserve.

This is where I have a problem with any finals series with a double chance.

West Coast finished above Collingwood.
West Coast played Collingwood in a final, and beat them.
Now, to prove themselves as the AFL premiers, they have to play Collingwood and beat them again. And not only that, but they have to play them at Collingwood's home ground, because reasons.

Why? How is that in any way fair? How have West Coast not already earned the right to finish above Collingwood? If Collingwood square the ledger with West Coast at 1-1 next week, why should that be enough to crown them ahead of West Coast as AFL premiers?

2015 all over again for the Eagles. No integrity in this league.

Lucky for Collingwood there is no fairness in this competition. Otherwise they would've had to go to Perth to take on the Eagles in a GF.

Anyway, worked for Richmond last season, hopefully works for them next Saturday.

Not complaining about getting an extra days break either even though they are lower ranked. However last week they were squealing about a 6 day break which didnt affect them in the end.

Similar to the very old and wacky VFL system.

Prelim final - Top team gets to play the team that qualified for this match, if the top team wins the season is finished and they're awarded the flag.
Grand final - If top team loses - they play a rematch to decide who is the premier.

IIRC* SANFL used the “challenge system” from the early 1900s up until the 1930s as well.

*obviously I don’t actually recall

Not disagreeing with you, but it's an unfair competition.

Why do some teams play better teams twice and other teams play them once and yet are in the same ladder?

Why do some players get a completely different set of rules to play under than others?

Yes it's unfair but it's just one of a million unfair things about this terribly run game under the current administration.

Yeah, but it's not like it's the first time it's happened.

Collingwood beat Brisbane in the 2003 QF, Brisbane returned via the other side of the draw to wallop them in the GF.

Sydney beat West Coast at Subi in the 2006 QF (when O'Loughlin got in the face of Tubby McTubs from the Eagles cheersquad), only for WCE return to via the other side of the draw to beat them in the GF.

The only 'fair' system would be the NFL's, where every final is cutthroat, with a floating rankings system, but the AFL would never risk having an 8th-placed minnow shock'n'knock a moneyspinning powerhouse minor premier.

This game has highlighted the stupidity of the current rules and interpretations. The 50 metre penalty is a joke as is the holding the ball rule. What is wrong with play on if the player takes possession and is tackled immediately? The SANFL doesn't get much right but the SANFL rules and interpretations have it all over the AFL. Time for the Victorian dominated AFL to look at the SANFL.
