The state League players eligible must have previously nominated for the draft or been delisted according to HS article this morning
So they must be players that have already failed at AFL level or completely overlooked by every club multiple times, for whatever reason.

Seems more like the AFL trying to sell hope to discarded players than a serious attempt to help struggling clubs.

If anything, it is tying up limited resources on long shots when we already are stretched for player development.

The club made a statement last night according to SEN. So looks like no PP.

Maybe these state league picks have been formulated with information that they will used to get our targets.

McAdam (state league player 1) + ADE 2nd for McGovern

2019 1st, Dogs 2nd + state league player 2 for Shiel + Setterfield

I’m not sure on the value of these state league players but I’m suggesting something along those lines.

We can be confident that SOS will look at all options and know what to do. This is a man who tried to bend the rules of the original mini draft so GWS could get Omera. The same guy who stockpiled late draft picks for points to pick up academy players. He’s always ahead of the curb. We’re in safe hands guys!

After sleeping on the PP thing, gotta agree this is the AFL scared of the Clubland reaction. They think if they give other clubs the ability to trade for the State League players that it'll stop the Chris Scott's of the world complaining about our access to them and the costs associated with scouting them throughout the year. In reality, that's going to make it a late second round PP and Shane McAdam. I still think we can get Shiel, Setterfield, Fasolo and MM without any PP.
I don't think we should discount Liam Jones and Levi Casboult leaving to assist in reaching our objectives, if Melbourne were to get Steven May, there may be teams that see Jones as a cheaper fall-back option. I also think Casboult would appeal to a team like Richmond.

Yeah but anyone can get a top end pick and do well with it and secondly, we don't deserve a top end PP. The same people that are screaming for a top end PP are also the same people saying we have the best crop of kids in the AFL.
If we see it, you don't think the AFL see it.
Shit, you or me could pick a winner with top end picks mate.

Is your surname Rogers or Hughes?

It limits the pool to choose from but the AFL is littered with players who have missed 1,2,3 drafts and come good. Like I said, our recruitment team will be forced to earn their keep and to me, that's a good thing.
The club/SOS would have known about this 'development' weeks ago. They will be well advanced in their dealings to get MM if he really wants to be a Blue.

The HS article today stated the Blues are confident of securing him with the concessions given to the Club.

Well then maybe we trade out both state league "free hits" and get back 2 x 2nd rounders, or a 2nd and a 3rd?

Mate, you don't get nothing for nothing anymore. We are where we are because of our own doing, the club has come out and said as much.

Don't be sucked in by the win/loss ratio. Injuries were a HUGE factor, the club knows it, opposition clubs know it and the AFL know it.

Don't get me wrong, if they gave us a PP I'd take it, but we don't need it.
Brisbane did

Wasn't there some talk about Casboult to GC? that could potentially help with landing Brodie... Cas + 2nd rounder for Brodie?
