It's a Clash of the Islands this week with the Coney Island Warriors heading over to Dragon Island to take on its eponymous owners. Both sides are looking for a win to rectify recent form, albeit in very different circumstances, and off-field, there are no more besieged club than the Dragons.
The Warriors handed the Dragons an almighty defeat back on Coney Island in Round 1, winning by 112 points and setting the tone for what has been a very disappointing season for the Dragons. The Warriors went on a 7 game winning streak from there, storming to the top of the ladder in the process, but 1 win from their last 4 games has put that position in jeopardy and they hold off the Demons on the basis of percentage only. They are, however, still the 3rd best offensive team and the number 1 defensive team in the competition and are by no means out of premiership contention. The Dragons meanwhile are looking for a win to counter a shocking run of form that has seen them lose their last 5 games in a row. A loss this weekend could see them drop to the bottom of the ladder, a sad reversal from a minor premiership last season.
The Warriors have had a number of solid contributors across their run this season, led by bookends Wooshette and BigJoeD_, arguably the best full back and full forward in the competition respectively. TheInjuryFactory and DapperJong have lit up the wings out at Van Cortlandt Park, whilst Freofalcon and Frankston Rover's work in the midfield is industrious at worst and brilliant at best. For the Dragons, Pie 4 Life has been a shining light in his twilight seasons and a recent downturn in his form has coincided with poor overall team form. Wayne's-World has provided good value in a number of positions but there's been plenty of passengers at Dragon Island of late.
