Greeted with a massive show of force. 100 of them are costing us a lot of money.

A massive police operation is being carried out as more than 100 Rebels bikies descend on Melbourne ahead of a national event this weekend.

Authorities have set up an elaborate checkpoint with roads blocked off and hundreds of witches hats lining the road in Sunshine West.

The gathering comes as tension with rival gang Comancheros reaches a boiling point.

Police have conducted breath and drug tests, with sniffer dogs also brought in, checking licences, registrations and carrying out road worthiness tests.

Members of the Rebels national outlaw motorcycle gang (OMCG) have travelled from as far as Western Australia for the weekend gathering.

One of Western Australia's top police officers went on radio yesterday warning fellow cops top be cautious around the bikies.

"We've got some warnings out for our officers to take particular care because these tensions are emerging," Police Commissioner Chris Dawson yesterday told 6PR radio.

"What concerns me and should concern the community is particularly when firearms are being used out in public, as we’ve seen, and people being injured."

Dramatic images from the 9NEWS helicopter shows the bikie members heading to the checkpoint and 2km away the police lying in wait.

Victoria Police said they are prepared to "act swiftly" if any violence breaks out and are warning residents in Sunshine and St Kilda they will see increased motorcycle traffic this weekend.

"The run will be closely monitored today to ensure public safety," Acting Commander David Clayton said.

Such a waste of time and money.

Meanwhile the Sudanese hordes continue to run roughshod over suburban Melbourne but aren't allowed to be arrested as it appears to be racially motivated.

Should have put canaries on every bike over the decibel level.
WTF is that.
How dare they tell me my car has to be quiet when they turn a blind eye to outlaw bikers.

You'd reckon they could have issued a bunch of fines to help pay for all those helicopters and extra police at least.

Also when they catch the APEX gang stealing cars, as well as the slap on the wrist in court at least they should have to pay the speeding fine.
If the penalty for stealing a car , driving without a licence and speeding is less than driving really fast in your own car ( possible impounding of a motor vehicle worth tens or thousands ) something is wrong.

Is a car in the wrong hands less dangerous than a gun in the wrong hands?

Well the fact is when you drive really fast in your own car you are putting people other then yourself at risk , effectively turning your vehicle into a weapon

You have a licence to possess and drive it. You have had training to drive it.
The car is not in the wrong hands.
If you abuse the privilege they take your license.

Why should they have fines based arbitrarily on the value of the vehicle?
