Id seriously consider it if i were GC.
With their unique circumstances , Walsh delivers them everything they need.
A leader and A grader for a decade as opposed to just another pick that may well end up like so many others previously ...
The Weller deal shows the value of retention to GC.
Walsh and Lukosius wouldnt be the hardest pill GC have ever had to swallow ...

We are not talking about substandard picks here.

They can get the same player retention with 2 quality selections in the top 6

GC will not do that deal, no club who has those picks would do that deal

We could always use our other future picks next year or even better go after FA’s like Coniglio or Swallow
Would probably need to add something more to do pick 1 for picks 3 and 6, we do have 3 3rd rounders next year IIRC, so that could do it.
I’d take Rankin and Smith over Walsh in heart beat, really like the Smith kid, when he plays as a deep forward he almost looks abit like JDG, those two would make our forward line a knighmare to match up on.

All the draft picks in the world havent helped GC to date.
Pick 1 (Walsh) this year presents as the best/safest bet the GCFC might ever make.
What price a decades worth of leadership and excellence to GC ???

Jet. Stop shopping for options and take the boy. Even used his left, showed a change of pace and strength overhead. Answers questions I feel. Need overs in any trade.
They will, and I’ll be happy. As long as it doesn’t come back to haunt me in 5 years time. No one really knows is the reality. His work ethic will see him a champ for all reports.

Here’s some more footage that’s more flattering of Walsh that I hadn’t seen and some people might not of either

Great game sense and decision making.

I know people say he's not overly quick, but I reckon it will be easier for Walsh to better his 20m sprint time from 3.00 to 2.95 than what it will be for Bailey Smith to improve his midfield craft.

GC can only secure WALSH with pick 1.
We're not discussing other clubs here , just GC and their unique circumstances.
They would land 2 players in the top 6
Walsh at 1
Lukosius at 2

If they pick the SA boys and they request a trade after two years, it will be a disaster.

Rumours have the King twins also hesitant about GC.
Walsh is reported as a genuine leader in the making , is considered a great chance to become an A grade player and importantly to GC , has committed long term to whichever club drafts him.
Sometimes opportunity knocks ...

What you would like to happen and what will happen are poles apart.

While Walsh is an outstanding leader, he is not the only one in the draft that possesses leadership qualities and despite what you may have read or heard, he is not a considerably better midfielder, as more than one recruiter has Smith ahead of him.

GC could easily walk away with both the King boys and Smith (who is also a great leader). They will not give up picks 3 & 6 for pick 1, we would have to include next year's first in that deal and even then, they would be mad to do it

Given Walsh is a Lions supporter, why would he be a better option, retention wise, compared to other players?

The problem with picks 3 & 6 is you take Bailey Smith with one of those picks, but what about the other selection?

If GC are passing on Rankine, Lukosius and Rozee, we will too. GC would not do the trade if they didn't think they were flight risks to begin with.

Then you have the King twins. Honestly, they're the last players from this draft we need. As good a talent as those boys are, how do you fit them in our current squad?

There's the option of Caldwell but he's had a few soft tissue injuries so it's hard to gauge exactly where he sits.

I guess it comes down to what our recruiters think we could land.

If we trade pick 1, good for us. But I'm more than happy for CFC to walk into the draft and call out Sam Walsh with pick 1.

Where have you heard that about the King twins? I havent paid close attention to them as they are surplus to our needs but I do remember a while ago them stating theyd be keen to play at the same club - while acknowledging its highly unlikely. I thought at the time that thatd be a win/win for the Suns. Get themselves a pair of bookends that they could build their forward and back lines around while having a high chance at retention.

If we had picks 3 & 6, SOS would not blink at adding Smith and Ben King if they were available

Rozee is a country lad. Wouldnt rate him a flight risk with us or the Suns.

Firstly , id be 50/50 on the deal , so perfectly happy to keep pick 1 and draft Walsh.
They could definately walk away with the King boys , but could they keep them ...
You consider our pick 1 (Walsh) and our 2019 1st for 3&6 this year as "mad" for GC ?? ... ok then ...
Retention wise , Walsh is a great bet for GC because he has publicly committed long term to wbichever club drafts him ...

I wonder if we are one of the recruiting teams that has Smith ahead of him. We could be keeping our cards close to our chest.

I expect our first round next year to be a top 4 pick. That being the case, a deal of pick 1 and future first for picks 3 & 6 would be heavily in favour GC.

Opinion or fact and of course the two would likely be available. They may even be available somewhat further down the pecking order than 3 & 6.
Again, and when we look at our squad, it's not a matter of loading on as much talent as possible, but loading on the right and required talent.

One thing I don't think we'd be desperate for though, is leadership. Feel we're in very good stead with what we have at the now senior end of our leaders, in Cripps & Docherty and several ~20 year old potential leaders, bubbling along from beneath. Gold Coast though are desperate.

Yes the would be mad to give up picks 3 & 6 for our 2 first rounders, given the quality in the top 6 this year

Walsh has committed long term to a club? Like Schache? Please

We should be looking at a player similar to Rozee before Ben King.

I might be missing something, but I thought we had enough key defenders already.

I'd almost say that we're too top heavy as it is playing Jones, Weitering, Marchbank and Plowman in the same team.

Not with the talent this year

Again I will say, Walsh is not the only player to have leadership qualities at the pointy end

I would very happy to add Smith and Rozee.

As for KPD, we have Macreadie and Weitering, King would be a replacement for Jones.

And please, enough with Marchbank and Plowman as KPD's, they are 3rd talls

Its not just "our 2 first rounders"
Its pick 1 this year who they would use on a potential future long term captain they are desperate for along with a likely top 4 pick next year.
If you think that is unders for 3&6 ... well ...
If you choose to cast dispertions on the lads word re committing to the club that drafts him ... well ...
