I hate to make this comparison, but I see Fog more in a Jake Stringer role. Predominately forward who can play both high half forward or 1 on 1 deep if needed, being able to use his Strength in that way. However can also run through the midfield as a specialist clearance player when needed. Of course Stringer is a enigma, but if you play consistently at Stringer's All Australian year level, you certainly wouldn't be unhappy with that output.
Hasn’t got the speed / power

Will be more consistent , better in the head

But Jeff, we've seen the devastating impact of Cripps as a mid .......why wouldn't you want that type, a Dusty type player in your midfield ???

Is your impact truly devastating if your side wins 2 games for the year?

Personally, I’m comfortable with us developing Fog to be a forward at present, but I don’t want to put a ceiling on him by saying he’ll never be a midfielder. From what I’ve seen of him he has the potential to be the type of midfielder you describe.

Posters mark him down for struggling last year when he was playing poorly with a meniscal injury requiring surgery. As a result of the surgery he rocks up to preseason overweight and unfit, leaving him way off come season proper, yet still plays 10 games of AFL football showing some great signs, and posters still mark him down as slow and immobile and want to put a ceiling on his potential.

Some players naturally have the tank/work rate to be an AFL midfielder from day dot, others have to work on it over 4-5 seasons. 2 of the games midfield modern day greats in Dangerfield and Ablett took until their 5th and 6th seasons respectively before the genuinely had the tank to brake out as midfielders.

Personally I’m quite bullish on Fogarty and where he’ll end up, whether he ends up as a forward or mid, i think he’ll be a gun.

I'm fascinated as too what our weight and conditioning goals are with FOG going forward. Most kids need to put 5-10kg on in their first 2 years, whereas Fog was pretty much ideal weight coming out of the draft, but just a bit too heavy through the legs.

Modern game is built around speed and endurance. If he had to put any more weight on it would hinder his performance imo.

100% agree. For FOG I think its all about finding a way to maintain his physicality whilst increasing his mobility and aerobic capacity. I wouldn't be surprised if he actually lost 5 or so Kg this offseason (It wouldn't be hard on that frame)

It will be really interesting to see how he looks come JLT.

I would assume he has to lose weight, although he'll never have chicken legs like most of the players now.

I dont think he'd ever be able to 'lose' his physicality

Are we planning in using him as a midfielder or forward? For a midfield role he might need to drop a few kg, but as a forward, if you compare him to Tex he's the same height but 8kg lighter. You wouldn't think he'd want to be much lighter than he is now if he's going to play that kind of role in the future.

Yeah, thats my point, depending on how he looks in JLT we might get a bit of an understanding as too what the club is trying to achieve with him! If he's noticeably thinner they could well see him as a part time mid/forward hybrid, but if they continue to build him up, I daresay its a pretty clear indication he will remain with the forwards!

Either way it will be pretty interesting offseason for him!

I think he could lose 5 kg in his legs and still have the biggest quads at the club. The kid has tree trunks!

"Not if I have anything to say about it."

Like Pavlich and Roo before him, Fog has powerful trunk legs. Coincidentally, he is a similar build to both of them. I don't think he can ever really slim them down without losing body weight. Not sure if his legs are a problem. Just needs to shred any baby fat that he might have and go on from there.

As a long term goal he will likely gain a few kg. But the issue he faces right now is as a 2nd year key forward, you just can't be carrying this kind of weight while building up a AFL level aerobic base.

I somewhat expect he will be sub 90 until the preseason for 2021, where ideally he should have the endurance base to build up to a ~95kg contested animal.

Mate, he is just about start a 4 month intensive preseason. Have you any idea what that not only does to your body shape but also your weight and fitness? Obviously not.. if can get a full preseason in you will notice a big change in him for the coming season.. not midfield ready but maybe a few cameos...
