We need skilfull mids with good foot skills.

Butters fits that bill. I'd also be looking at Ely Smith post Selwood

Skilfull mids with good foot skills. So we need those type of players but only one. Because E Smith simply butchers the ball!! He does it by hand and foot but by foot he is very very poor!

I have only see his highlights but boy oh boy does butters look a player. He is smooth as silk. Does he have any speed though. Looks to have enough but certainly not speedy. Am I right about that? He reminds me a bit of parfitt in that he seems to make great decisions with ball in hand. I have a very strong feeling we take this kid. He has been invited to the first night. If Clark slips I still think we take him and would not mind Sturt at all but would have no problem with this kid. Anyone know how he tested?

From Draft Combine review......

There was a fairly big group of players who were ruled out due to injury. Nick Blakey is nursing a sore ankle, Curtis Taylor hurt his adductor training for the combine, Bailey Smith has missed 12 weeks with issues, and shoulder problems for Zak Butters, Liam Stocker and Ian Hill meant all three of the possible top-20 picks weren't out there.

Just not totally convinced on his disposal and clean hands. Also I think I have made it reasonably clear that we agree to disagree on what we should be looking to do with our first selection. You seem to be obsessed with getting a big mid where as I just want the best available as cliche as that sounds. I think people forget that Danger still has 5 really good years left as an inside bull. Menegola is played sporadically there but could be a number two big mid at 189cm comfortably. Also Constable by all reports looks a player and you can't draft based on expecting your 19 year olds not to make it. We also have Cockatoo who whilst he has proven nothing with his inability to get on the park he also isnt finished yet either. With 12 we simply have to take the best available and look for list balance later. Besides O Brownless is a 187cm big mid.

Dangerfield is getting older and Scott likes to use him to plug holes, doesn't play midfield for long periods anymore.
Menegola is not rated on here but can be used through midfield.
Who knows with Constable and Brownless is only a medium not even at the club yet.
Cockatoo well only medium (fwd) and how long does he last
I reckon we need the balance and x factor besides Hately's a ripper player who'll contend for seniors first year.
Given all the rest could be categorized small mids l think he's the perfect list addition.
I reckon the obsession with most you guys is for the conservative route being the small/medium mid.
We already added Dallhaus to their number now we need to dare to do different.

Hately is clearly a better prospect than Constable, even though I like what I’ve seen of Charlie. In 12 games at league level in the SANFL he averaged 18 disposals, 4.5 marks, 4 tackles and kicked 11 goals all while not playing a lot of midfield minutes. At reserves level his numbers were incredible. He also won the breakthrough player of the year in the SANFL, beating Lukosius in the process.

He averages less than constable in the vfl who is a year older. He would be stuck in our vfl side just like constable

Constable is "Stuck" in the VFL ...

Been on the AFL list less than 12 months and had tonsilitis over the preseason this year.

Some people just can't not bait.

Constable performed better in a superior competition one year out from under 18 level. To suggest Hately is a better prospect based on those stats is wishful thinking.

Connor Idun has been linked with Geelong with one of our later picks. It'd be a good selection imo.
We might even take him with our second pick.

I'm not convinced that he's a legitimate KPD but he would certainly be able to play the third tall role.

With talk of Caldwell, Clark and Jones bolting into the top 10 it looks like Hately will be the one that slides to us.

They'd both be great that's the real point.
I see people on here criticising players for their lack of ball winning ability and using 18 possession games as examples and then on the other hand talking up players who average the same amount. To me Hately is vanilla with no outstanding attributes and one who doesn't have the potential to dominate at AFL level. Constable is a similar type of player and one who has already been in the system so there's no real need to draft another. We need class and x-factor and there are better options than Hately in the draft. There's more star potential who can have a greater impact.

Our second and third picks are virtually the same so it'll be one or the other if we go down than route.

Asked Buddha about him a few months back.
Fair to say you rate him higher, well you actually rate him.

How does Vanilla play so well against seniors in that many games???
Surely just a dumb baseless accusation.

Idun late or rookie is fine by me.

You missed the entire point.

He also had issues with concussion and the club was cautious with him. He found plenty of the ball when he did play. I expect him to debut before the mid point of the season .

Valente at the start of the year for his club:

3.09 20m
8.5 agility
20.8 yoyo.

For comparison Hately:
3.05
8.3
21.7

Both slow 20m sprints, but Hately's agility and yo-yo tests here would have had him in the top 10 for both events at the combine.

Not to mention he got injured mid-season when CS said he was right in the frame for selection.

He also had issues with concussion and the club was cautious with him. He found plenty of the ball when he did play. I expect him to debut before the mid point of the season .

So then I shall adjust my original post to uninformed baiting.

I don't know anything about Idun, but I'm not sure Buddha is the best judge of talent. He hasn't had much success as a coach.
