Who has been the best key forward since Carey?

You know deep down he'll always be a Hawke.

Not to me....Cost us the 2012 flag & then pissed off to the mob he lost it to, after 'getting suspended' for the qualifying final against them in 2013!.....Dog-acts.....And then, to cap it all off, we get pick 19 as compo for him.....Pffft.

Aside from that, he'll always be a unique player....A 197cm half forward flanker, with pace to burn, phenomenal agility & a 65 meter hook-kick.

Every gun forward has their own routine. Take a look at your boy Kennedy for example, tippy toe tippy toe, shuffle shuffle, sideways, bang, goal. What a, to borrow your term "tool" of a run up.
You're behind the times - Kennedy has corrected this routine from his game a couple of years ago! It must have been a long time since you've watched an Eagles game.

I looked at players that started playing from 1995 onward (Carey's last 'solid' year being in 2000). The intention is to discount players whose careers largely overlapped with Carey's, it already being established that Carey was the best forward of his time (for example, Matthew Richardson and Alastair Lynch - both deserving of praise, nonetheless Carey was at the time considered better).

Using this metric, Lance Franklin and Matthew Lloyd are the clear standouts IMO.

Matthew Pavlich, Nick Riewoldt, and Barry Hall should get honourable mentions.

Brendan Fevola could've been part of the Franklin & Lloyd level if his career didn't fizzle. Bit sad.

Lance Franklin has the chance to break the 1,000 career goal threshold, though. That's notable. So much so, I'd rate him as the best key forward since Carey if he manages to do it.

Always "The Joker."
So name the 10 (min) better.

In no order, he could be level with two or three of these guys at best!

Lance Franklin
Nick Reiwoldt
Matthew Pavlich
Brendon Fevola
Scott Lucas
Matthew Richardson
Matthew Lloyd
Warren Tredrea
Jack Reiwoldt
Josh Kennedy
Jarryd Roughead
Barry Hall
David Neitz

Dont get to upset champ!

Fevola?? Seriously?
Also, "since Carey" should preclude the inclusion of Lloyd, Lucas, Richardson and Neitz who played more of their careers before Carey retired than after.
Anyway, who cares?
