Knightmare is more of a 'by the numbers' sort of amateur recruiter for mine.
That's not a bad thing, but I've found him not to have a broader vision for players, I've found some others to have.
Sometimes also, the marriage has to be right between club & player and if it's not, that talent just doesn't developed properly. It's not easy.

He is fine, I am sure if most people posted their rankings they could be laughed at for years to come.

At times I think he does attempt to find a certain diamond in the rough and boost their stocks. Judging how he ranked players in 2013 is also rough. I remember when I first started attempting to do rankings they were all over the shop. Secondly, people like Knightmare don't have access to medical and one on one meetings.
I am sure there are some players that if you got a chance to talk to them or knew their medical issues, you would not go near them.

With RCD you are relying on him building his tank and learn to find more of the ball ( do the 2 may go hand in hand?). A bit too much wishful thinking for a first round pick

RCD I change from loving to being worried. He has enough tools to really explode onto the AFL scene if everything clicks. He certainly has first round potential but has some risks. If someone like Venables can be drafted in the first round with a those some question marks, then I think RCD will get picked in the first.

Agree - it's hard to rank players. I also think he doesn't do a bad job and at least puts it on the line. My reason for showing his 2013 list is the he does, like most of us, get it wrong and we shouldn't be too concerned if he is downgrading Sam Walsh.

You know what it is like mate, easier to bag an opinion rather than forming one yourself

Personally, I think his write ups are first class, but as with everyone, where you see them at the next level will draw varied opinions.

As for predicting where they are drafted (especially phantom drafts), I see it as a pointless exercise, as teams have different strategies

Just to give some perspective to that article - here are Knightmares 2013 rankings - pretty hit and miss :

Sheesh your harsh. 5 years on and most of those are still active players. Bloody good effort IMO given the average life-span for an AFL player is 4 years.

More than that. I think if he can build a tank then everything else will just click. It effects everything he does......time he can spend on the ball, time it takes to recover, his productivity, even his concentration levels (decision-making, etc). I'll give you an example. At the Carnival RCD would be good in the middle for the first 5 minutes, then he'd consistently begin to get caught on the wrong side of stoppages. That is not a luck thing. Mental fatigue is often the first sign of physical fatigue. It takes so much longer for that to happen with Smith, Jones, Valente, Walsh, Hately, Bytel, etc.

The problem is that his endurance tested in the bottom 20%, we're not even talking average levels here. You'd need to find a way of getting him at least a good level of endurance and try to find a way of boosting his recovery rate. You'd be a lot more comfortable if he just scraped into the Top 50% and you were trying to get him to somewhere between good and very good. I think a 2nd Round selection probably more balances the risk v reward argument if that makes sense. Given that the 1st Round will most likely go to Picks 24/25 in this draft he may still go 1st Round.

You may find I'm not laughing at him, but have when he's clearly rated his own clubs' players above others unnecessarily and with bias.
The rest is pretty much what I'm saying, so what exactly are you telling me? :)

All good. Just one more week to go and we can all take a deep breath and get onto more important things.

Bont at 10, Kelly at 14 and Cripps at 31.

A trainwreck of a draft prediction. This guy now works at ESPN?

AFL recruiters go it right far more than this guy for that draft. Not even close.

If he says Walsh is not the best then I am now convinced more than ever that he will be the best.

Next years Draft?

I don’t want to deny everybody a month of fun, but guys - we’re keeping pick 1 and taking Sam Walsh. End of
You need not have worried about denying fun. They are fully feasting on any rumour of trades no matter what. Four weeks later they still ready to believe any rumour of pick 1 traded. Time for me grab myself some more snacks and read more.

Long time lurker, first time poster.....just a theory but perhaps with our backline a lil thin and SOS delisting Rowe regardless, maybe Luko will be the one. Can play back fwd wing anywhere....except maybe under a pack with Crippa. Would give great flexibility having McGovern and Luko interchangeable or both fwd or back as needed.
Another thought, with Walsh being highly loved by all his peers that could be of great value in the coming years in regards to poaching guns from other clubs.....come play with your ol buddy goodguy Walshy etc. Could help secure some names in the future.
Personally I am in the camp of trade 1 and get more if we can. Would be very happy with Luko or Walsh or Smith or Rozee and any combo of those hell yes please. Trade future 1st if need be

Welcome Feta. The old guy will let you know where the cake and hope is

There's not much else to talk about.

Trying to guess who we'll take with picks in the 70's is both difficult and not very interesting.
Same with the rookie draft.
Boys have only just started training again, so it'll be a while before we get some interesting track reports.
Captaincy has been locked down.
Coaches are all in place.

So given keeping Pick 1 = taking Sam Walsh, tradye hypotheticals to move down the order and add some more picks is about all we've got as far as more expansive footy talk goes.

See. I just spent 5 minutes crafting an elaborate post detailing how little there is to talk about. This is what we've been reduced to.

Emma Quayle can't split Walsh and Rankine for her pick as the best in the draft. Both for the reasons discussed ad nauseam.

She spoke on a number of players. If i could decipher her tone:

She might just lean to Rankine at No1.
She isn't that keen on Luko.
She is high on Rozee.
She is high on Sturt.
She is high on Williams.
Not that keen on West.
She is still high on Ed Richards who she confirmed was 2nd behind Bonar on their list last year and i wouldn't mind betting was her pick lol.

She also confirmed that it was the Head of Recruiting Adrian Caruso and not the List Managar Jason McCartney who has the final say on draft night.

Used to always enjoy reading her Draft Previews. Good she got a job doing what she loves.

You mean, the way it should be?
I don't like everything being about SOS, SOS, SOS, even though I've fallen into the same trap myself.

Would love to se Brodie speaking to Bolton from here on in.....although he may not have to, given we have next to no picks this year. :)

It was interesting hearing her define her actual role with the Giants. They are utilising all her skills and she is sort of a Recruiter/IndependantJournalist now instead of Journalist/AmateurRecruiter.

Firstly she does do talent identification, but then her main role is sort of investigative. Talking to lots of people, gathering info, doing grass roots homework.

Link is on TheAge site. It is a podcast int with Niall and Gleeson.

Brodie has certainly been involved on the table last couple years. SOS just reads em out. McCartney will probably read the names for GWS too.

I wonder who has final final say though for us. I wouldn't be the least surprised if Brodie does. Or if SOS does. Or it is a dual minded final say. As long as it is defined and harmonius.

PS : I had you down as within 5 minutes jumping on that tidbit;). 45 mins....you let me down:)
