Watched all the highlights, the kid lowers his eyes and picks out targets inside 50 with kicks to advantage.

Been begging for a player like that in every game day thread for the last three years. Like that he also doesn’t mind getting the pill himself or tackling when he doesn’t already have it. We may have just got the bargain of the draft.

Bit of perspective, Stocker has similar attributes to an Angus Brayshaw. Uses the ball very well both sides of the body, harder than a cats head, very good extractor of the ball and like Walsh, great workrate and endurance
I agree with everything except for the endurance.

This.

SOS just gained another first round pick this year, two years before we hit our window. All while keeping a first rounder next year.

Bloody brilliant move.

Yep. Brilliant move.

Thats 8 young midfielders now: Walsh, Stocker (18), Dow (19), Fisher, SPS, Setterfield (20), Kennedy (21) and Cripps (24).

It's going to take a few years, but by God we're going to be a force in a few years.

We also retain a 1st rounder to use for trade bait next year as part of Phase 2.

Back this decision 100 percent.

Now to prepare myself to death ride the Crows next year.

Sos and Carlton need to do this......
got to make it happen
sooner rather than later...we couldnt get elite trades to the Club so we get.......potential such as Stocker
Mature,strong...........no fear

I can a see good things

I think the endurance side of his game is his weakness. For someone who went full time I expected something a little better. I think his competitiveness and hunger for the contest is something that shields this well. Endurance can be worked on, so I am not too bothered, but just don't think it is a strength of his right now.

The thing with his endurance is that it is not at a fast pace, so at times he will struggle if there is quick ball movement 50-80 metres away and another stoppage straight away, which is a highlight of Walsh's game.

But as you say and I agree, it is an area he can improve

If things go badly a future headline might be:

"Dow, Jones and Stocker on the market"

Helluva change from a few years ago when our list was All Ordinaries.... ;)

If Stocker can build the tank to AFL levels, his outside accumulation should improve with it - might otherwise be the only factors standing in his way. Andrew Russell is going to be a busy man, but Stocker's attitude seems equal to the challenge.

- Childhood hero Judd? Blue supporter

Judd link is East Sandringham, not Carlton; Stocker barracked for St Kilda.

What I love about this is because I've felt that with where the age of our list is, this is the last year we really hit the draft. Aiming at 2020 or 2021 to be a big year, 2019 draftees will be too young. After this year we should be trading heavily. I was hoping we could bring next years first into this year but to do that and keep a first is outstanding. Makes up for getting rejected for a priority pick. So a good player in this years draft is worth more than a good player in the next. It's all about timing, getting everyone there at the same time.

Our midfield has size. It has a few with speed. But it lacks power and that combination of size, skill and speed. This is a good get for us.

This has been an enormous recruiting period for us and it's not over yet.

This guy does look something special in his videos.

Didn't this selection add some extra spice to the night? It shouldn't come as a surprise that SOS would be keen to capitalise on the live pick trading rules & weren't Liddle, Lloyd & co pleased with SOS' effort.

It is good to see a youngster who is proficient on both sides of his body. Jack Dyer would have described him as 'amphibious'. Seriously though this is such a rare trait these days it should enable Stocker to consistently catch opponents out as he turns the opposite way to anticipated.

Listening to him speak you can tell he has a good head on his shoulders. This continues the trend of the last few years to bring in youngsters who are level headed. We are building a core of strong leadership on our list.

This is a huge risk by Carlton, but when Bolton fronts the playing group over the next few days and tells them 'I don't care about next year's pick' 'I think we've got the team now that can challenge for a flag' that this will have a bigger impact than another high pick next year will anyway. Bolton and co. have thrown their eggs in the one basket but it was about time they did anyway, and this has the opportunity to galvanise the entire playing list and force the kids to take the next step. It's do or die for Brendan now, and I think he knows that and is banking on this club turning the corner. We have everything we need to be a great team in place, and now the players need to back the coach who has really put his neck on the line for them. Time will tell.

I actually don't mind this deal for both clubs. It certainly comes with some risk from Adelaides perspective though we never get truly top end picks so this may well get us there. Even this year with so many picks short of going all in we still wouldn't have had a chance in getting to the top end. From a Carlton viewpoint it says to me SOS believes the core of the list is now ready to start winning some games and advancing. Now whether that happens next year probably won't make much difference in the long run, especially as you'll still have a first round pick wherever it falls.

Naturally people from either side will turn it into a pissing contest but I can see the merit in the deal from both sides.

You're not doing it right; come back when you've stewed over it a bit and your blood is beginning to boil. ;)
