Zac Foot

Player Profile

The Sydney Swans snapped up Zac Foot with pick 51 at the 2018 AFL Draft and the Dandenong Stingrays product has shown tantalising signs ever since. The youngster’s phenomenal speed and urgency to take the game on were on show in the NEAFL in 2019, while he scored a number of goals that were nothing short of exhilarating. In Sydney’s clash with the Northern Territory Thunder in Round 14, he latched on to the footy on the left wing, took three bounces and slotted a goal to seal the game for the Swans late in the final term. Foot was a stand-out in Sydney’s 2020 pre-season campaign, often leading the team in short, fast repetition work and impressing with his work ethic. The Victorian is pushing hard for a spot on a wing or in the forward line in Sydney’s senior side in 2020.

The Sydney Swans have selected Zac Foot with pick 51 in the 2018 National Draft.

Zac Foot

Club: Dandenong Stingrays
Height: 181cm
Weight: 73kg
Position: Wingman

Profile

A wingman with line-breaking speed on the outside. One of the younger players in the National Draft, so Foot has plenty of development ahead of him. Represented Victoria Country in the AFL Under-18 Championships and has been a consistent performer for the Dandenong Stingrays.

We were rumoured to be interested in him before the draft, and looking at his highlights I can see why as he seems to run a lot and have a good penetrating kick. He is also young, in fact I think he is still 17 according to the AFL draft tracker, which means he probably has more development left in him than most.

Either way, welcome to the Swans.

STRENGTHS

  • Ground coverage
  • Class
  • Kicking
  • Cleanliness
  • Versatility
  • Work rate
IMPROVEMENTS

  • Acceleration
  • Consistency
If you have ever seen Foot play football, the first thing people often note is his speed. While his Combine numbers have shown a different story, nobody can deny Foot’s ability to cover the ground. Foot is one of those players that does hold great acceleration, but can maintain a good pace once he is up and going. He boasts an impressive outside game, loves to move with the footy and passes well by foot. If picked up, it will be for these reasons and the hope that they can develop him into a strong outside player. He has the class to make it happen and a talent for creating opportunities just by being around the ball. His run and carry is elite, but he is also not afraid to get in the contest and take the ball for himself.

Since his time down at Langwarrin, Foot has proved himself to be a star footballer in the making. His run and carry, and ability to find space are standouts in his game as he continues to demonstrate clean and precise kicking. He is a player of pure class and versatility, who covers the ground well and knows how to apply important pressure.

From AFL Draft Central scouting notes on the TAC Cup GF:

#9 Zac Foot

Two goals in a grand final, Foot has a great goal sense. He was very lively when up forward and applies a lot of pressure on his opponents. Not only was he good overhead in contests, but something good always seems to happen when he is involved in the passage of play. His best finals game with 15 disposals, three marks, three tackles, two inside 50s and the two majors.

Happy with this one too!! Saw his highlights when he was linked to us by Twomey and thought gee if that's what he can do at 17 what could he do once he's been in a good system like ours for three or four years! I'm sure he'll take time to develop but there's a bit of Ronke about him with the way he backs himself in certain situations. Welcome aboard lad
