Really happy with Liam Stocker on several levels, given I knew nothing about him beforehand. I don't study all the draft hopefuls, by draft night I might have a general awareness of the top 10 or so prospects, that's about it.

Liam presents as another top quality young man. I love that we hand-pick guys who are going to be an asset through their character as well as their ability. I liked what Bolts said when he met Liam: "We think you're a real competitor. Bring that with you." Praising and setting a challenge at the same time.

His highlights consistently show great ability to manage heavy traffic and good burst speed when exiting the packs. If all our young mids develop to potential we are going to have an absolute monster midfield brigade in a couple of years.

I love the scheme SOS pulled off to snap him up. Why wait another year to get another quality midfielder, when we can get him now? If we were behind the times with our drafting and list management, I think we have well and truly caught up.

Also fun throwing down the gauntlet to the Crows, challenging them that we're going to improve a lot next season... and they're not. :p

Sam Walsh only has 8 pages.
I’ll just let that sink in.

I'm sure that's no reflection on how excited our people are to get Walsh, just that it was pretty much a foregone conclusion. Plenty of quiet fist pumps when Sam finally became official, not much more to say. There had already been so much discussion about him over the preceding weeks.

Stocker stimulates more discussion because his arrival was so unexpected. SOS spins straw into gold, again!

Obviously Im stoked with Walshy but something about this guy has me excited, reminds me of Jack Viney in more than one way.
Heres a to a long a fruitful career in the navy Stocker !

Where did you get pick 20 from ..did you pluck it from your ass ..more like pick 10 we will get
Just a number. I actually think Adelaide are a 5-10th side meaning it won't be hard for the blues to win this trade. Wouldn't be surprised if your crows pick falls in the top ten.

I'm not sure why people are going on about this being a risk. Adelaide gave us pick 19 for us possibly upgrading their first round pick next year. IMO it's Adelaide who are taking the risk by giving away pick 19 and relying on us finishing low. Pick 19 for a potential pick upgrade in next years first round, there's the risk.

All draft picks are a risk. We drafted a young player who we rated higher than where we picked him but he happened to be there and all we did was possibly downgrade next years first round pick to get him. I'm just stoked this happened!

This guy has the attributes of a very good midfielder. Could well be an absolute steal. Get him fit and no more injuries and he has a lot of upside. Guys who handle the ball cleanly, are big, strong and powerful runners who can find the footy and have good skills, that's what makes an elite midfielder.

Twomeys last phantom picked him at 19 and gave him a good wrap:

Liam Stocker
POS: Midfielder
Ht 183cm, Wt 83kg, DOB 23/1/00
From Sandringham Dragons/Vic Metro
October ranking: 18

An excellent second half of the season saw Stocker storm home to take out the TAC Cup's Morrish Medal. He's a hard-bodied, big and strong inside midfielder who kicks the ball well on both feet. He's confident in his ability and averaged 22 disposals a game for the Dragons this year. Stocker has come from a little further back than others given he missed the national carnival with a broken jaw, but he made up for lost time to push himself into first-round contention.

Where does he go? Another who is a chance to end up as a Giant, while Richmond could also have a think about Stocker with their first choice. Melbourne looks a possible home at No.23 if he got that far.
Nekminnutt SOS the great man waves his magic wand and now Xmas stocker becomes a mighty Blue

I banged on about it predraft and there was no way sos wasn’t going to have a pick between 1 and 69 in an awesome draft. Players like Jordan Clark at 15... unreal

Crystal ball says
- At the end of the 2019 season after a breakout season by the Baby Blues and another stinker by the old and tired Crows, SOS’s trade acquiring Liam Stocker for free in the 2018 draft will go down as one of the best trade deals in history
