Although 211cm makes him a giant, I will concede that.
We all saw how tall Max King was at 204cm, this bloke is 7cm taller. Same height as Sandilands and Cox.

I guess this should be in a different thread, but since the discussion is about the rucks...
I haven't worked out my 22 yet, but Marshall and Acres are both in. These two could be anything and I'm convinced we have to back them in until it's clear they need a spell in the 2s. In Acres' case I don't think that spell will happen, it's his time. Marshall might be a year away.

I'm happy to give Longer the first few games out of respect if the coaches feel he's our number 1, but after that I'd like to see Pierce and Marshall doing the duties. I actually think we can take Pierce, Marshall and King in the one team due to their mobility and the fact that 2 of them can play forward comfortably (or wing). Marshall's foot skills make him an asset all around the ground, even down back. Pierce would ruck ,sit in a hole down back or rest on the pine. The others could stay out there pretty much all game, resting out of the goal square.

On the other hand, if we play Longer, I don't want all 3. In fact, I would only want Longer and Marshall, because like others on here I don't want to see King in the ruck even if it's for ruck relief. Would rather we rucked Paddy or Bruce for relief, as King is now our #1 asset.

Was pretty impressed with the highlights of our recruits and the way we've theoretically balanced the list. Love Bytel's ability on both sides, almost Hunter Clark-like. And one of those other blokes (can't remember which off the top of my head) delivered the ball magnificently into the forward line - something we haven't seen for a while at the Saints, along with some run and carry. No more round the world switch, switch, switch, bomb? Hopefully we've seen the last of that game plan. Our best 22 should be wide open next year with these mature agers coming in. Only problem is we're unlikely to know what our best 22 is until about round 22 next year.

Longer & Paddy shouldn’t be in the best 22 IMO. Too slow & immobile. They can’t defend which is a prerequisite for modern footy. They are liabilities & unbalance the team making other players have to try & cover for them. Not suited to the modern game.

We dont have a giant Yank. You mean Sam Alabacus, who is West Australian. He has been playing College Basketball in USA, but that does'nt make him American.
Incorrect, he was born in Dubai and lived there until he was 15, moved to Perth for three years then to the USA for three years.
He kicks like a two year old, seriously possibly the worst kick I’ve ever seen on an AFL list.

He has proven to be much better in the ruck than Marshall has. Not hard to see how he would be starting considering it is a 50/50 choice.
Has longer actually proved anything. I doubt there is a regular ruckman that has worse stats than him in the last 20 years of afl footy. There is more to rucking than hitting the ball. Just look at the best rucks or the best sides. Marshall couldn’t be worse. It’s whether pierce is better.

Our win/loss record with Longer as our ruckman is significantly higher than with our other ruckman over the past 2 years, and the stats have shown our midfield performs much stronger in clearances when he is playing. He may offer basically nothing as a player, but somehow he makes our midfield stronger and more competitive. I would rather that than a ruckman getting 15 disposals but us losing the clearances and getting smashed weekly.

Coincidence. Just watch the Melbourne game to prove stats can be rubbish. Unfortunately he is one of the worst players that has been a regular player in the afl for many years

Hmm, that's not a good wrap. Worse than Clint Jones?

Im more looking at 2017 where we were ranked last for clearances at the start of the year when Hickey was our ruckman but then once Longer came in, we were ranked 3rd in the comp. Then this year when Hickey took over again, we went right back to being one of the worse in the league. For some reason, Longer makes our midfield stronger and our midfield needs all the help it can get with getting first use of the ball.

Disagree if you can't defend but you have qualitys which out weigh this then they are suited to modern footy.

Battle ahead of the Prospect.
Battle's gut running this year was impressive. If he continues to develop his running and uses it as a weapon it will be a very handy tool for breaking down defenses. One that selectors will find hard to ignore.

Ok that’s one season. How were our stats in 2014 and 2015 when Longer was also our #1 ruck?

Yeah I have a feeling it's just coincidental that we were winning. I think Billy has potential to be a good player still, Max Gawn was below average until about 25.Big year coming for Billy boy.

Hopefully he is over his injuries and can get a proper pre season done. We really brought him back way too earlier last year, so he never really got a fitness base to work with or recovered fully from his injuries.
