May have already been posted but the early stages of this video make it very clear that we were in discussions about moving down the order in a trade with GWS. The Giants changed their strategy and lost interest.

Lucky they did, would have missed out on Smith if we had traded down with GWS

Just watched that Sir Vandelay highlights video again - that kid is a bloody jet!
Cannot wait to see him debut...

His Nickname will be Latex - get it right.

Same, Roarke has become such a vital part of our team I'm not sure what we would hace done to survive.

I believe we had the opportunity to trade back and take Caldwell, and another pick in the teens, but we passed.

Well for the opportunity to be there, both clubs would have to be up for it. I think it was the Giants who lost interest, and cooled, not us. They would have been pretty confident Caldwell would get to them, and didn't feel the need to give up another first round pick just to move up two places. Once Gold Coast passed on him and picked King, and we were obviously keen on Smith and the mail was strong on the Crows being into Jones. Why move up for nothing? Caldwell was theirs just by sitting put.

With his hammies I'm not sure Caldwell would be a good fit for us.

Caldwell could have taken up the positions left on the injury list of Big Red and Adams. Hopefully medical staff will be left scratching their asses all year.

Smith was always our guy. He’s a potential A grader for the next decade and likely a top 3 pick if he didn’t have sore tendons.

Glad we banked and cashed in on him. Here’s hoping he fulfils projections.
