O'Dwyer is a country boy, from Yarrawonga i think it is. He has been boarding at xavier the last couple of years or so. Pretty sure I read SOS had been watching him for the last 5 or so years.
There was a young lad Finbar O’Dwyer
Whose surprise drafting did inspire
The critics to have their say
On why we drafted this way
But he could be a steal if he grows any higher

Think i'll have what he's having.

That was personal,
All I did was try my best,
Is this one better?
This one is way better as it has heart and is more personal to you.
A poem with no heart is shit.
It does not rhyme though, so still, to be frank, pretty ordinary but least it is personal which is a major improvement from shit poem.

Actually was impressed with his wiry build at training hope he turns into a Lappin or Simmo that just keep going and going with minimal injuries, has really good pace for height might be a steal and turn into a gun HF like Gunston.

Carlton web-site have updated the player profiles now to include all players with their allocated numbers, both senior and rookie.

Going through the list, probably the first time for a long time, there are no obvious list cloggers....just a bucket load of talent!!!

What a job SOS and the team have done to build a list like that in such a short period :thumbsu:

Well that’s heartening, usually a very slow burn to get what you’d think was pretty simple data updated.
App still got the old crew on there...

A good selection in the type of player that we need, if he can develop into a quick, rangey, mobile forward with good hands & kicking + applies pressure with his tackling. It’s quite the suite.

Carlton's loss/gain = Foley, Jordon, McAdam, 2019 5th...... McGovern, 2019 3rd
Adelaide's loss/gain = McHenry, McAdam, Carlton 2019 5th ........McGovern, Foley, Jordon, McInerney, Adelaide 2019 3rd

I think we have done well, based on those selections

I would have thought we'd select Bailey Williams and Joyce around then?

Dragging it over here Jim

Given some of the criticism of what players SOS has selected, I have used actual selection for all picks traded out. I agree with you on Williams, but I had others ahead of Joyce. Valente, Berry, Bytel, Taylor, Kennerley, Turner, Sparrow

The latest article on AFL website says we had Stocker number 6 on our draft list.

Very interesting.. Walsh, Rankine, Luko, M. King, B.King.. Stocker?
Probably.
Maybe Rozee for Ben King.

I'll take a shot at this. I think it was tencentpiece that gave us MKing not being in that top 6.
If that's the case, BKing is unlikely to be there either. Why? Not needed as much as others?

Rankine and Lukosius obviously.
Pretty confident Rozee would have been there also, given he's something we don't have.

The last one is tricky and I'll take the guess that it wasn't Smith.
If so it may have been Caldwell.

Walsh, Rankine, Lukosius, Rozee, Caldwell & Stocker.

Looks right to me, though I reckon there'd be half a chance of Hately being in their for Rozee, if the rumours of Rozee being very against an interstate move are true. Top 6 for Carlton, not top 6 on ability.

Walsh, Rankine, Luko, Caldwell, Hately, Stocker.

Just because a player may not be a need, doesn't not diminish how he is rated on the talent scale

One may influence the other though and by my observation, it clearly does and has done for some time.
If we didn't rate MKing as a top 6 talent, why exactly would have that come about?

I know what I see and if others see it differently then fine.
It's also clear to me given some discussion, that some recruiters have a bias towards certain types. It happens.

Recruiters could have bias, I guess, all of us prefer certain players over others, no matter what the outputs shows. We can all manipulate situations, but no matter what we think, it is clear SOS has and will continue draft best available (how he rates a player) and trade for needs. A strategy, with which I strongly agree

I hear you but 'Best available' may be different things to different people.

On talent alone, it may be hard to argue that Walsh has more talent than Rankine & Lukosius.
He's the better fit for Carlton, but is he really the better talent?

You already know my thoughts on Walsh, but that matters little now.

I guess once you assess what SOS has completed this year, breaking down the trades and drafting, the strategy never changes.

Example of this, is Finbar. With a full book of KPF and 3rd tall forwards, McKay, Charlie, Kerr McGovern, TDK (ruck/forward), JSOS, Levi (only a backup now), SOS drafted another KPF. Surely he would have been rated as best available, rather than a need

That may yet be an example of recruiters bias, which I alluded to. :)

Just on your example though; I haven't seen Finbar play and as you've previously suggested.....Height alone shouldn't determine the type.
He's a total mystery to me other than for what I have read and as for BSilvagni....come on....we know why.

I don't know your thoughts on Walsh other than I think you rated Smith higher, but that doesn't really respond to that stated.
Who were the best talents and if the CFC were selecting for talent alone, why didn't we take those players?
