You realise the pies also weren't tipped to make 8 so didnt beat muchThese guys weren't even tipped to make the 8 pre-season. Mitchell and Priddis gone meant a lot of experience, as well as Brownlow medals went out the window. The most important and influential player for WCE, and one of if not the best ruckmen in the comp goes down injured in Nit Nat. Gaff, an ALL-Australian and a bloke that was tipped to be runner up in the Brownlow misses a lot of football due to his punch on the young Freo lad. And Sheppard, a player who emerged the last few years as one of the key defenders in the game goes down in the first qualifier against Collingwood. 5 goals down in the first quarter, the ghosts of 2015 re-visited, a host of missed chances late on yet they still find a way to win despite all of this. Balls of steel and a mind like no other. I think this win is as good as the Doggies in 2016 and as good as any other premiership in the history of VFL/AFL.
West Coast Eagles - Could not be beaten. Mentality of a warrior.
Was this the best win or the most hardest for any side to obtain in the history of footy?
WCE 2018 - not even close to the best flag win. Bloody lucky Richmond went out in a shock SF exit
My best would be equally:
Bulldogs - 2016
Hawks - 1989
I'm not buying this s**t at all. It depends on your definition of "best". My criteria for best win is exactly that, based upon quality of the team and the obstacles they face. The best team by a street this year was Richmond, and they screwed it up. Look out next year - North Melbourne 1999 written all over them. All the rest of us saw was two lottery winners and one of them destined to get a prize. God, even Melbourne from elimination was tipped by many up to and including the PF, a sure sign that confidence in the top shelf product isn't great. We're in a bit of a lull period at the moment, because no one really qualifies as a juggernaut...
You missed Gaff at the pointy end. Big deal. Alistair Clarkson influenced organisations like Hawthorn, WC, Richmond, Footscray and Brisbane place a big emphasis on some other pleb being able to do the job when the incumbent isn't there, and WC had 7 weeks or so to practice their moves. Collingwood spent the majority of the season with the severest injury list in the AFL, which was still there on GF day...
Injuries? I point you to the Hawks in 2014. Stupid American sports movies follow those types of scripts.
Good run in the finals? Footscray wins that by a street, if not Adelaide twice in a row...
Win against far superior opposition? We could go Melbourne in 1900, great story there, but you'd have to argue that Geelong were clearly alongside the best teams in the history of the sport when they lost in 2008.
WC's 16-6 is the equal 39th best WL since the start of the 16 team comp in 1995, equal with 16 other teams, and they played Collingwood. WC travelled once in the finals after a week's rest in the GF, and remembered to not play like wet fingernailed drag queens when they walked out onto the MCG, unlike 2015. Collingwood's road was tougher, and they nearly got it - but no one surely would rate them as good as the back to back losers in 2002-03, a photo of whom Mick Malthouse keeps in his study as a reminder of what can be done with "limited resources"! Would you guys have given the gong to Collingwood as the best flag ever if they'd hung on in those last couple of minutes?
One day we'll see a set of fans sit there smugly and just silently nod and bask in their triumph, without all the rationalisation and wank and chest beating, as they then get ready to go through it all again. Still waiting.
Sick of seeing this tripe. Eagles lucky that Tigers bailed out early. With what evidence is that even remotely true? WC have only shown in 2018 that their vic hoodoo is well and truly buried. They demolished Richmond earlier in the season in Perth with their aerial game. Tigers couldnt beat Pies on their home deck while Eagles have beaten the Pies twice there in 2018. Tigers were limping towards the finish line, which is evident in their results. While Eagles just came off a killing of the Demons. There is zero evidence from this year that would say tigers would have even won it. Eagles would have mauled them in the air.
Stop trying to belittle a great win. Eagles the first interstate squad to beat a vic team at the GF without concessions in the AFL era.
Greatest win? No. Its not. But Eagles aren't lucky Tigers didnt make it. What ******* s**t.
Based on Richmond beating good opposition away....oh waitI'm not buying this s**t at all. It depends on your definition of "best". '' They didn't face Richmond ''
The side who didn't make the Granny, and got belted by 39 points the week before. AGAINST Collingwood. On their '' fortress '' MCG.
lol

East west travel is hardlol...but travel makes no difference!!!
I'm sure we've had this conversation. Home advantage is an undisputed thing during 95% of any season, and in any sport. Once you get to the GF though, all bets are off if you're an interstater. The stats show it, the inside story of each match shows it. Sure, 5 Vics in a row between 2013 and 2018 - but Freo couldn't kick goals as part of their game plan, Footscray were in the zone, and the other three were utterly limp-wristed and would have been postmatch drive-by targets if they were Colombian soccer players. Before that, interstaters ruled the MCG. To get to the G in September as a non-Victorian, you had to jump through those hoops...you've conquered it. WC in particular over the last 30 years has shown a definite pattern when rebuilding, not contending until they can handle the plane trips, but when they win flags, the away record is seriously impressive. There's an excellent study of this in Footballistics...lol...but travel makes no difference!!!
Not too sure WC needed to beat Richmond in the Granny just because Vic media said so... Richmond were not good enough to reach the Granny. Pies were.it was a good premiership no doubt
however they didn't face richmond . had they beaten them in the GF, it would have made it better.
theres other better premierships. dogs 16
I agree. very subjective. certainly a great argument starter though!Hot take: there's no such thing as a "best ever premiership".
Hot take: there's no such thing as a "best ever premiership".
LOL!Wasn't even more impressive than Dogs 2016 and Richmond 2017, let alone of all time
But we're continually told that if your up against an MCG tenant come finals that there's no advantage because, well, it's a final....Best GF win, but the Bulldogs finals run overall was a better story.
Being five goals down against an MCG tenant with three very good players missing and coming back to win in the dying minutes is amazing. Collingwood will be hurting for the rest of their days if they don’t win one with this group.
Coming back to win in the dying minutes? Scores were level at three-quarter timeBest GF win, but the Bulldogs finals run overall was a better story.

Lol and??? They were down deep into the last quarter and stole it in the dying minutes. The fact that it was even at three quarter time is irrelevant and does not render my statement incorrect.Coming back to win in the dying minutes? Scores were level at three-quarter time
