The last two spots in the forward line and at present it is a race in 6.

It’s a bit of a lottery really - SPS I voted for and so did a lot of us but not convinced he is a forward but he is a promising midfielder who could apply forward pressure.

Polson I voted for as he started to show something as a pressure forward but not many seem to agree. I think my vote was more in hope.

Fasolo might have a second coming at the Blues but I question whether 3 bigs and Fasolo works

I think Daisy will get games so can see why some picked him, a lot think Pickett or Cuningham (voted for Richie) could be the player we need but they are running out of chances.

Walsh and Setterfield to me are midfielders and Walsh should get the last spot on the bench and Setterfield will either force Kennedy out, develop in the twos for a while or be a bust but can’t see him as a forward.

To me Bugg could be the smoky for the small forward role.

Walsh 31%
Cuningham 31%
Pickett 35%
Bugg 26%
Thomas 30%
Setterfield 34%

Polson 15%

Interesting, with Russell's arrival, that they have sent Pickett away to train separately. Reminds me of the time Ross, sent Walters back to, improve his fitness and body shape, continuity improved dramatically.

Now, this might not be the case with Pickett, but one way or another, this is his defining year
Was it separately at the VFL team, or additional sessions at the VFL team?

Forward Pressure

The final major race has been run and done. With the backs and forwards already locked and loaded, the forward line was always going to be a mixed back – with existing mids likely to push into the conversation, perhaps attributed to our lack of secured forward options.

Nonetheless, we had an incredible 2 players who earned every single vote in Harry McKay and Charlie Curnow – our CHF/FF combo for the next decade.

Charlie Curnow2.JPG

Interestingly, three of the next five of our forwards is made up of players new to the club. The mix is good, with a balance of speed, skill and goal nous on show.

We wanted Mitch McGovern in the trade period and he wanted us. In the end, we got our man and he looks like he’ll be a fantastic player for us – complementing Harry and Charlie beautifully.

Second was SPS, who narrowly missed out on midfield selection and is known to love a goal (and celebration). He’s clearly in our 22 and is tipped to have a big step up in 2019 with a full pre-season under his belt.

SPS.JPG

The only designated small forward in the mix was ex-Pie Alex Fasolo, who was brought in to play senior footy. The pressure will be on him, but the club rate him highly so will back him in.

The final two spots came down to a tight contest, with #1 pick Walsh, rookie ex-Dee Bugg, Daisy and Cuningham all super close.

But the consensus was ex-Giant Will Setterfield, obviously rated as high as SOS does. Should he be fit for Round 1, he will play and play well. Genuine gun.

Finally, the last spot was given to Pickett – his speed and potential enough for 53 of us to give him the nod. He has a big pre-season ahead, and 2019 will be make or break for the speedster. Let’s hope it’s the former.

Now, onto the final vote – the bench and emergencies. The list this time is short, made up of players who earned at least 5 votes in one of our prior polls.

Choose wisely, Bluebaggers.

Want Walsh but LOB has done nothing wrong and deserves first crack at it.

Good to have choices

Consensus be damned - we are leaving out clear best 22 players here.

Have both Walsh & LOB in my best side, with Daisy now likely also.

Reckon you could mount a case for just about everyone else in this poll too.

Walsh vs LOB vs Daisy. Can’t pick it.

My hand drifted first to daisy, then landed on Walsh.

Fact of the matter is, Pickett is not getting selected over Daisy or Walsh and its really throwing out the mix.

Rest of the lineup looks pretty good I think.
