Does anybody have the average age stats of the best 22 each round in 2018?
It does not help at all this year in round one we had one of our best age spreads and we got pumped by 82 points.
Round 1- (85 to 90) x 4, (91 to 94) x 8, (95 to 99) x 10 = Biggest loss, our wins were as follows.
Round 3- (85 to 90) x 4, (91 to 94) x 6, (95 to 99) x 12 = Win
Round 6- (85 to 90) x 2, (91 to 94) x 7, (95 to 99) x 13 = Win
Round 7- (85 to 90) x 1, (91 to 94) x 7, (95 to 99) x 14 = Win
Round 8- (85 to 90) x 1, (91 to 94) x 6, (95 to 99) x 15 = Win
Round 15- (82 to 90) x 2, (91 to 94) x 7, (95 to 99) x 13 = Win
Round 20- (82 to 90) x 4, (91 to 94) x 6, (95 to 99) x 12 = Win
Round 21- (82 to 90) x 4, (91 to 94) x 6, (95 to 99) x 12 = Win
Round 22- (82 to 90) x 5, (91 to 94) x 6, (95 to 99) x 11 = Win

Here are the four Prelim Teams just for some comparative value.
Collingwood- (87 to 90) x 6, (91 to 94) x 10, (95 to 99) x 6.
Richmond- (88 to 90) x 6, (91 to 94) x 11, (95 to 99) x 5.
Melbourne- (86 to 90) x 4, (91 to 94) x 8, (95 to 99) x 10.
West Coast- (86 to 90) x 7, (91 to 94) x 8, (95 to 99) x 7.

Another interesting factoid of the 2018 season was only five teams kicked more Behinds than Goals they
were GWS, St Klida, Bulldogs, Gold Coast and Carlton. Of our 14 losses for the year in 8 of them we did
not score 60 points which was poor we also conceded 100 points in 8 of the losses. We played 13 games
at Marvel Stadium for 7 wins and played 9 games elsewhere for 1 win versus GC at Mars. I would give
you more in depth stats, but we would never win another game.

Another fascinating journey of epic proportions.

So in fact the ladder per game played is
1 Richmond
2 Melbourne
3 GWS
4 Crows
etc
Grand finalists were 5th & 7th. Premiers were 7th.
Intriguing.
What does that tell us? That metres gained is not as critical a measure as some would have us believe?

The combination of all the key stats when added to a teams game style can make any team able to bury a few stats and
still win games and dominate. Richmond and the Dogs both lacked ruck dominance, but hid it brilliantly to win the flag.
West Coast are not a volume side, but their kicking with Shannon Hurn was very efficient and can slice through the
modern press and team defence. There is more than one way to skin a cat, but if the basic numbers are against you
then you must get lucky or fudge games to win.

Also, is there a ladder for opposition-most-metres-gained?
Richmond: 146,117 For 136,444 Against
West Coast: 144,881 For 141,420 Against
Collingwood: 151,118 For 143,808 Against
Hawthorn: 130,480 For 130,171 Against
Melbourne: 151,813 For 140,313 Against
Sydney: 130,903 For 126,410 Against
GWS: 144,587 For 138,249 Against
Geelong: 133,441 For 129,296 Against

North Melbourne: 120,923 For 120,302 Against
Port Adelaide: 125,884 For 123,686 Against
Essendon: 125,491 For 121,542 Against
Adelaide: 130,771 For 128,710 Against
Western Bulldogs: 119,114 For 124,832 Against
Fremantle: 118,208 For 126,880 Against
Brisbane: 120,982 For 123,574 Against
St Kilda: 120,714 For 125,493 Against
Gold Coast: 119,105 For 135,847 Against
Carlton: 108,323 For 125,338 Against

I will let you work out the averages, dog-watch.

What do whole-team metres gained statistics actually tell us? I think the only useful information we get from them is how free-flowing the games that team was involved in were. Differentials in metres gained strike me as essentially meaningless, because there are only two ways a team can gain more metres than their opponent: Kicking a goal, or having the siren happen to go when the ball is in their forward half. In the former case, this makes metres gained an imperfect measurement of something we already have a perfect measurement of; and in the latter it seems to me that proportion of time in forward half would be a more useful measure of a similar underlying variable (i.e., territorial dominance).

Metres gained per player, on the other hand, provides a bit more utility in terms of seeing what individual players’ contributions to territorial gains are.

Does that make sense? Or am I missing something?

The top twelve teams all have more metres for than against and interestingly all had percentages over 100 on the ladder
the bottom six teams all have less metres for and more against and all had percentages under 100 on the ladder. I use
or have used cumulative points to measure games as well, both teams scores added up. Our two wet games against
Adelaide and Port Adelaide netted our worst cumulative scores of 89 points and 112 points the next two lowest
cumulative scores where our two wins against Carlton 139 points and 115 points. Our two games against North
Melbourne were interesting the first a loss had a cumulative score of 152 points where as the second a win had a
cumulative score of 177 points. Statistics are great and often mirror exactly what your eye sees, but it is a mistake
to try to pin a total assessment on one set of statistics when there are so many variables in the game.

Successful teams with lower average meters gained could have high centre clearance and forward entry efficiency.

Yesterday I did something to my BF display by accident - I think I mis-hit a key or accidentally clicked on something. Since then the display has been enlarged by about 15-20% and it's annoying because I have to scroll up and down more, even to get to the start of the first unread post.

I've looked through preferences and various BF menus and can't find how I can set it back the way it normally is. I've tried closing the BF window and re-opening it but that doesn't fix it.

Can anyone help?

Try holding control and scrolling your mouse down, might not be a BF problem but just a browser issue for the one page

Does "pinching" the screen help?

Thanks but naah. I neglected to say I'm on a PC using Chrome (and none of the other open tabs were doing it which is what threw me).
Timtam was on the money (or the beer). I must have hit control by accident when I was scrolling up.

Hey, just wondering, i just watched the game on FOX footy in 2000 were F'Scray came back against that Great Bombers outfit.

Does anyone on here know what exactly Brad Johnson said when he sprinted the length of field to verbally sledge/Rip into John Barnes?
It would have gone down in Folklore now for you guys surely?

It would have been one of those things that stays on the field unfortunately, guess there would have been some colourful language involved considering he was elbowed in the head earlier by him.

Also a cool story bro, it was later that year or the next year I was only about 15/16 & got taken to Queensland, seen him with his kid at one of the theme parks & I was still pissed off at him for that lol. Didn't say anything to him but recognised him, my mum said "Hi John" & he looked kinda surprised he was recognised

Barnes cleaned up Johnno just before half time, concussing him and causing a big brawl. Johnno was reportedly pretty out of it in the 2nd half (probably wouldn't have been allowed back on these days), gave Barnes a big spray after Barnes wouldn't shake hands after final siren.

It looked like Johhno was quite animated in regards to Barnsey!
Even threw in a middle finger! Oh how i wish i could lip read

There it is a journey of epic proportions back to a time where 20 cents minimum chips would
feed a small country for a week. Interestingly we kicked more Behinds than Goals six times
during the modern era and eclipsed our Scoring Shots from our flag year quite regularly in
fact did it for fun from less Games played. Anyway back to my plotting for the 2019 season
not that it is going well too many questions and not enough answers yet.
