A lot of blood was spilt in Perth last weekend, but it was the victims who were fined.
You post that even after the evidence has been published in crystal clear video?
Blood being spilled does not mean a call was wrong. Basketball is not a non-contact sport, especially not when players like Griffin and Taylor are playing it. Few go harder than those two.
Canberra were massive sooks last weekend and paid the price they deserved IMO. I'm all for calling out bad reffing, but when you start making serious accusations about refs over an incident that they were correct on, that should not be tolerated by the league. The refs showed amazing restraint IMO for not hitting Paul Goriss with techs the way he was carrying on in that game.

Having said that, the Caps are a quality team, and I've thought since before the season started that we were destined for a Melbourne-Canberra grand final series. Nothing has happened yet to change my opinion about that. It's great to see Tolo returning to action - she's one of my favs. Leilani is starting to get into the groove after a very quiet (due to injury) start to the season, and that will be just as big for the team as Marianna IMO. And Nurse will probably never be as cold from the field again in her career as she has been in her last 7 quarters of basketball. She's world class too and will only get better looks once Tolo is in the paint attracting all sorts of attention.

I thought Canberra played the better basketball last Friday, but a lot of good shots didn't drop and that's just unlucky. That's the way it goes some nights. Perth showed a lot of heart and cohesion, and hit just enough big shots when it mattered down the stretch.
I'm still puzzled by Canberra's final 30 seconds though. That's a lot of time in basketball and I sure didn't feel like we had it in the bag yet at that point. They just gave up instead of fouling to make us win it from the free throw line, and we're the worst FT shooting team in the league.

Another Friday night another win, started slow which seems to be the norm these days. Think its the tempo and depth that seems to get these teams good to see Ellie Collins get some mins, miss having Maddie out there and seeing Heal warm up was great playing on Sunday against Rangers she said to me after the game.

Heal or Maddie playing on Sunday? I assume Heal? (But hope Maddie!! coz we badly need size right now, not shrimp, though it's great that Shyla has healed now too)

Hate the slow starts, but loved everything else. Asia's 2nd quarter was beautiful to watch, and Katie & Brit finding some form in the 2nd half was important too.

4 turnovers in a game is extraordinarily good. Combine that with 11 steals and managing to break even on the boards, and it resulted in 17 more FGA than Bendigo. That's really tough to overcome even if you shoot well - which Bendigo didn't.

Anyone watch Boomers-Flames on tv today?
A budget team, missing two of its best players, on the road vs. half the national team & a WNBA point guard. And took them down.
It was beautiful.

Heal, I didnt get a chance to chat to Maddie last night. find her personalty on court to off like bi polars she is a beast on court but so shy and reserved off she is a great character awesome role model my little one (9 YO) adores her. yeah saw the result from Sydney upset of the year lol

Well it turned out that both Allen & Heal played. First time all season we've had a full roster. And we got absolutely spanked :flushed: Ouch!

Tolo 23 points in 21 minutes off the bench in game 1. Look out, WNBL. Here come the Caps. And to think they might possibly still have Wallace to come back in time for the playoffs too.
Lightning hitting some nice form as well, with Seekamp & Nicholson in particular really stepping up.

Marianna was, as expected, a little rusty early on but as the game progressed she began to look more and more like the player we love in Capsland. Over the course on the next few weeks I’d expect her to improve her game fitness and hit the boards more heavily. She is also one the better shot blockers in WNBL history (got 11 in one game IIRC) so I’d hope she is also able to be the defensive obstacle she was in the past.

Shame he didn't get his second tech, he gave the refs so many opportunities to eject him, especially his carry on about the slight delay in a time out being called by the refs.
its funny how these coaches are two weeks in a row, and Rangers coach is always on the brink of getting one. Meanwhile Andy cool as a cucumber even in defeat glad he got coach of the month. LA got Player of the month no surprises there

Big weekend of games about to start.
Rangers a good chance to grab 2 wins and put themselves on the brink of the top 4 (or even into it). They get Sara Blicavs back on Sunday's game.
Canberra possibly getting Kristy Wallace back this weekend as well, which makes them crazy deep. Their game tonight vs Adelaide should be a cracker, and they're on TV on Sunday hosting Perth, and will be out for revenge after the spiteful clash & fallout of a couple of weeks ago. Tune in to that one.
Townsville host Perth tonight with Batkovic a game day decision and Aokuso apparently playing with a stress fracture. They'll be desperate to win because a loss will pretty much kill their finals chances. Perth will be desperate too because they won't want to go 0-2 for the weekend.
Melbourne playing the in-form Adelaide on Sunday could be a ripper as well.
Even Sydney-Dandenong tonight could be a good contest with both teams showing some improved form lately.

Tolo has been back for a couple of weeks now, and the Caps are starting to look really good, they have won their last three games by 32 (Perth at home), 27 (Dandenong at home) and 26 (Townsville away). It's not all good news though, Wallace returned on Friday night against Dandenong, but appears to have done her knee again this afternoon in Townsville.

Caps 104 Townsville 75.
Tolo, Mitchell, Nurse, Griffin and Wilson is the best starting five we have had since our championship era of the 00’s. They are looking ominous although with Wallace out we may lack the depth of Melbourne and Perth.

Been awhile since last post, Sydney game was concerning but when the pressure was on they got it done. Tonights game against rangers a real season defining game both teams needed a win Lynx getting the job done. first quarter was played at a furious pace ref almost threw away the whistle. First trip to Perth for Rangers and there coach is up for worst behaving coach of the season though TBH she got some stiff competition from Canberra and Bedigo lol. Mansfield gets better every week playing with more confidence wonder if we have seen her best yet. Allen heart, swags abilty to turn it on and Asias scoring power, we looking like we are back on track next home game on the 10th against Boomers big test.

Rangers are not the side of two years ago but Lavey turned it on back in Perth layup in last quarter was pretty good and she hit a three must of been in the third was just magic. Cole looked great and was pretty damaging early on, Carly also great from outside.

Rangers are so hot & cold. They destroyed us just a few weeks ago, but much better from us on Friday to take care of them despite Laney having a huge game. I agree that the win over Sydney was super-unconvincing, but against Dandenong we looked much closer to our early season level of play. Cole has had a great season but I thought we did a great job of keeping her quiet/inefficient.

I'm pretty satisfied with today's loss to Adelaide too. Considering the crazy early start time and that we played on Friday while they were fresh, and they've been flying lately. Being able to stick with them and then close to within striking distance in the final minutes is pleasing.

I'm hoping Sydney can get themselves another win today vs Townsville.

Caps 86 @ Rangers 43.
Caps looking stronger with every game, have won their last 5 by a combined total of over 150 points. I can’t remember a time when a team has had such a dominant run, not Jackson era at Canberra or the Sporn era at Adelaide, not even the Taylor era at Dandenong.

Lynx last year went 13 unbeaten Courtney Williams was tearing the place up. going down to melbourne in the semis was hard to take

I was talking about the margins more than the winning streak itself, Canberra has been averaging 30+ winning margins over the last 5 games, and none under 25 points. They have been averaging 90ppg over this streak, but it's their defense that is smothering teams, Townsville scored 75 (which I'm sure will disappoint Goriss) but the others have been kept to 60 and under.
Canberra had a 13 game winning streak and four others over 10 during their reign in the 00's but never, even when Jackson was averaging 28-30ppg, did they have a run where they dominated teams so completely. They had a lot of huge wins, but very rarely did they follow it up in consecutive games. I was at the Tuggeranong Basketball Centre the night they defeated Perth (who were crap for more than a decade:)) by 67, but they followed that up with a 17 point loss.

I watched the Bendigo/Melbourne game yesterday, Bendigo were most unlucky not to win that. An amazing 3 pointer on the full time buzzer from Allen (from about 4/5 metres from the 3 point line) to level the scores, and then Melbourne dominated overtime.

well dont know what I watched last night but Boomers where well off, got strange feelings of last season when they came without liz and we took it too them only to get well beat in the finals.

well with that win things are starting heat up all spots up for grabs Caps and Boomers going to be interesting this weekend.

Liking that the Lynx have arrested their freefall.
What to make of the Boomers? I was out of town so didn't get to see Perth dispense with them, but then less than 2 days later and after 2 long flights, they have a very good win against an in-form Adelaide (who were looking great in the first half).

I really hope Perth can beat Adelaide next weekend. Not just for selfish reasons, but also because I think it would set up a much better semi final series. Perth have shown they can compete with Melbourne (not that I would expect us to beat them over 3 games, but against the Capitals I fear it could be very ugly for us), and despite the fact that Canberra are #1, Adelaide have won the regular season series against them so that would be a good semi final series too.

Yep even yesterday boomers looked just out of whack might be the travel might be something else. im saying we play melb and caps v Adelaide. Im not all doom and gloom I think we can beat Melbourne best of three but we will have to put it all on the line. As for the caps think we match up there really well prob better than most games are always very physical and close. we shall see how we go. Luuuc do you know which players are on the longer contracts Laurn, Katie , Heal and Asia ?

My go-to site is this one: http://www.basketcasepodcast.com.au/wnbl-offseason-tracker/ … which shows Mansfield, Ebzery & Heal as definite multi-year deals (Asia might be too, though I would be surprised if we had signed a new (to us) import for multiple seasons)

And I agree we could beat the Boomers, but they would still have to go in as favourites given home court advantage.
Caps … I just don't see it. Not now that Tolo has settled in and Mitchell is healthy and in form. They've got star power everywhere. I mean nothing is impossible if the Lynx really get on fire, twice, but the odds of that feel very low to me. Melbourne regularly manage to play well below their talent level, but Canberra seem far more mentally strong. I think Griffin + Tolo would tear us a new one in the paint, and if we send help then they've got more than enough perimeter firepower to make us pay.
