With Boston unable to trade for Anthony Davis this year due to the Rose rule and LAL not wanting to get rid of all their young pieces and picks and Pelicans ideally not wanting to send Davis to another team in their conference. Why shouldn't the Raptors be active again as they were with Kawhi and go for it while their roster is of championship contention quality? Would these Raptors with Davis and Mirotic win the East and/or win the championship this year?

Pelicans get: Patrick Siakam, Serge Ibaka, Norman Powell and Raptors 2019, 2021 and 2023 first round picks unprotected
Raptors get: Anthony Davis and Nikola Mirotic

Who says no and why?

Two teams looking to move contracted players for uncontacted players would be ideal trade partners for Chicago with Jabari Parker's contract having a team option.

With LAC hoping to sign KD and Kawhi:
Scenario one:
LAC get: Jabari Parker and Justin Holiday
Bulls get: Danilo Gallinari, Jermone Robinson and Clippers 2020 second round pick

Who says no and why?

With NYK hoping to accumulate expiring deals, keep their 2019 first pick, keep their young core and get into free agency with the hope of signing Kyrie and Jimmy or attracting anyone who doesn't want to sign with LAC/LAL:
Scenario two:
NYK get: Jabari Parker, Robin Lopez and Cameron Payne
Bulls get: Tim Hardaway Jr, Courtney Lee, Lance Thomas and Knicks 2020 and 2022 first round picks unprotected

No reason to trade Mirotic for Powell from a New Orleans perspective, similar ages and the former is the far superior player. Makes no sense.

Have no doubt the Raptors would trade their 2019 and 2021 picks, not sure they'd be willing to give up a 2023 unprotected with Kawhi and Davis soon to be FA.

They'd have to be pretty confident to give up Gallinari like that, he's having an awesome season. Not sure he fits Chicago's timeline either.

Clips would be much more likely to dump Avery Bradley's contract using a similar deal. If they dumped him they'd only be carrying $35-40 million in guaranteed contracts for next season anyway, plenty of space to move.

No way in hell the Knicks give up two unprotected firsts on a wing and a prayer.

Could see them giving up one protected first to dump Lee and Thomas, maybe.

Trade 1. The whole point with the first trade is the Raptors asking for Mirotic so they have enough to win with on the front line with the Raptors going all-in win now in the hope AD/Kawhi sign long term. And AD can play with anyone not needing the ball. The x3 picks + Siakam particularly are the big assets for the Pelicans to enjoy to make the offer attractive as they're in rebuild mode without AD. The 2021+2023 unprotected picks gives the trade an interesting dimension in the same way that the Nets/Celtics mega trade a few years ago did though the Raptors will be betting on themselves retaining AD/Kawhi and them both staying healthy and others wanting to join them ongoing. Gives the Pelicans a real chance to rebuild with a good number of future picks in addition to Siakam to build with and Powell another possible long term piece. They could then move Ibaka and Holiday for more picks and young players if they want to go completely noncompetitive. But with their team going nowhere and if they know AD wants out, I like the Raptors as a stop for him and I think they need to get aggressive with future picks and Siakam to outdo any offer from the Lakers or Celtics next season.

Trade 2. Agree about Gallinari not fitting the timeline for the Bulls - and he still has currency with the way he's playing - though I'm not sure he's one the Clippers should keep as they probably drop out of the playoffs irrespective and need the money for free agents. I forgot about the Bradley contract. Bulls could take on Bradley, Clippers could take on Lopez and that second rounder could become a future first with the Clippers aggressively trying to get their salary cap figures down to have the money to make the big free agency offers and even better have room for good veterans to join the core L.Williams/SGA and even better have the money to bring Boban back who has been incredible for them. Would there be a third party that could take on Gallinari and a similar contract back to the Bulls?

Trade 3. NBA teams do overrate picks and getting rid of all those guys is about all in one go shredding their roster of all their contracts to have room to bring back Porzingis and get the cap space to have two premier free agents and an early pick, perhaps pick one to join them. They'd love Porzingis/Zion then a big two. Whether it's KD/Kawhi. Kyrie/Jimmy. Or one of those and a D.Rose with room for other additions. It's one of those situations where if they don't think anyone wants to go there, no way they do it. But if they can land a big fish. Giving up the two first rounders without losing this year's would be big for the Knicks.

Yeah I get why the Raptors would trade for Mirotic, but I don't understand why the Pelicans would include him... unless you think that Siakim and three firsts is an overpay for Davis? (it isn't.)

Mirotic is young enough that he could be included in any potential rebuild, but more to the point if the Pelicans were to deal him, then it would be in return for an actual asset. Norman Powell in the first year of a $42 million contract is not an asset, he's a cap clogger if anything. If the Raptors were willing to trade VanVleet instead of Powell then yeah, maybe.

Trade 2. Agree about Gallinari not fitting the timeline for the Bulls - and he still has currency with the way he's playing - though I'm not sure he's one the Clippers should keep as they probably drop out of the playoffs irrespective and need the money for free agents. They're not dumping Gallinari in order to keep Boban, that'd be silly.

IF the Clippers were to pull of a hail Mary and sign both Durant and Kawhi, and subsequently have little need for Gallinari, then they'd most likely trade him for a guard or a big. And they'd do that trade in June/July, not now. They don't need to be more than $60 million below the cap, and if they hypothetically dumped Bradley and renounced all free agents they'd have that space... with Gallinari, Harrell, Williams ans SGA all still under contract.

They'd be more likely to trade Tobias Harris for an asset before his contract expires if they were to do a Feb trade at all.

Trade 3. NBA teams do overrate picks and getting rid of all those guys is about all in one go shredding their roster of all their contracts to have room to bring back Porzingis and get the cap space to have two premier free agents and an early pick, perhaps pick one to join them. If it were 2005 or 2010 and Isaiah Thomas were still GM, then yeah, perhaps.

But there's no way the Knicks are giving away TWO unprotected picks on a gamble to sign free agents. Or a gamble to sign Rose (who isn't worth it, and doesn't fit their timeline at all, regardless). Or a gamble that they somehow fluke into landing Zion in the draft.

New York have Porzingis, Knox, and a few young guys they're kicking the tyres on. That's their timeline. Even if they were to fancy, say, Kyrie, who is plausibly young enough to fit their timeline... then they need only to get $30 million or so below the cap in order to hypothetically land him.

They can get down to roughly $67 million salary for 2019/20 without renouncing Pork's or Mudiay's rights. If they wanted to make more room for another middling free agent, or to re-sign Kanter or Vonleh or someone, then yeah they could trade Courtney Lee and Lance Thomas for Jabari Parker... but the Bulls would only be looking at receiving one first round pick, probably protected, in such a deal. Anything more than that is just unrealistic.

"Incredible"? He plays like 10 minutes a game, because of his foul-prone-ness and lack of mobility.

The best 10 minutes per game in the NBA. Those are meaningful minutes and arguably the best per 36min numbers in the NBA. 24.6 points on 62.5% from the field is absurd with 14.7 rebounds and 1.9 blocks. He's the Clippers best for mine in those minutes he's on the court. Instant buckets. He's not defending out on the perimeter, but he changes the game completely the other way, with no one able to stop him from dominating inside.

The Warriors should be signing Boban next year for the MLE and get Joakim Noah for the veteran minimum as a rebounding/defence/hustling/passing/rolling/cutting big at the same time. Good options when Warriors want to play big and ideal roster fits who both give very different dimensions.

Look, I poked my head in on this to absolutely know this is about Davis.

I planned to s**t all over it for that reason.
But Boban? The NBA meme?
His per 36 are amazing.. his PER is best in the league. Ask for numerous firsts for that man

The Raps could trade Stormin Norman Powell for him.
