Glenn Maxwell and his future

Maxi is remarkably cool about all this kerfuffle. He knows he can't do anything about these turkeys so there's no point getting worked up. He loves his cricket and looks to get the most fun out of it, which endears him to fans around the world. Watch his video clips for Direct Hit. His impersonation of Kevin Pietersen (a great friend of his) is a classic.

I reckon Maxwell should issue a massive ultimatum. Pick me for the test side or I'm off to the make millions in the T20 stuff.
Haha turn it up, it's Maxwell, not Don Bradman.

I think he'd do alright at Test level and would be quite happy to see him be given a chance, but a lot of hyperbole gets thrown around re: his omission.

kerfuffle is my oper dude and he knows this is a kermumberle and he always drafts the legends who knows where he gotes and where they wind up... cha

chan and wander...

Not quite. Turned the question back on the journo in a bullying way then after all the aggro, admitted (or alleged) he didn't know. In other words it was true.

Very unconvincing, Justin.
The apology is what did it for me. It's one thing to be a confrontational tosser in a press conference, it's another to do it by accident. You never saw Malthouse profusely apologizing a few minutes after trying to verbally eviscerate someone.

Maxwell should have been given the opportunity to play in the curtain raiser 3 day game at least against Sri Lanka if not selected for the test team.Give him the opportunity of playing the longer version of the game in more shield games and games like this,he wants to play test cricket and personally I think he can.

Genuinely can't wait for "Big Show's" next 30 (28) before getting out to a typically stupid shot, just to hear the dissembling and excuses on here.

Well he will probably have come in at 5/130 off 40 overs after Marsh bats 35 overs and makes 55

Stuff like this is why it shits me that they have him (apparently) pigeon-holed as a white ball specialist. The best innings I've seen him play was his Test hundred. That's what I want to see more of from Maxwell. He clearly has the talent and the runs on the board in FC Cricket. He seems to have the ability to put the dumb shots away as well, but that's the area he needs to work on. FC and Test Cricket is where he'll get the opportunity to do that, but no, they just tell him to get back in the pajamas.

This is a talented cricketer in an era where we aren't exactly rolling in talent and he's willing to opt out of the IPL, has said he views Tests as the ultimate goal, and was just starting to have some success in them. Dominated in the Shield last season as well. Meh, it's all been said already. It's just doubly frustrating when combined with performances like Langer's today.

Green tomatoes are not the same as green apples or capsicums, this is important to keep in mind - earlier stages of development aren't always ideal or even palatable. You have to know the difference between an apple that is green because of variety and one that is simply unripe!

In Langer’s defence, he’s being grilled about conversations that he wasn’t part of and that predate his time as coach. What answers do they want from him. Does need to chill though.

But it’s also not something new, surely he would have found out about it? But he kept trying to tell the reporter it never happened

This is what I just don't see - with the exception of his one test hundred and the big shield double hundred, the one constant in his career has been a complete inability to put the stupid shots away. People can talk about him coming in late in the innings all they want, but Mike Hussey came into international cricket in the exact same position in the ODI side (albeit with a far more talented order above him) and still managed to bat according to circumstance.

The most pressing problem with our top six is their complete inability to bat with any discipline and build an innings. The idea that Maxwell is somehow a solution to this (anymore than the numerous other talented yet flaky prospects around the country) is ludicrous on the available evidence.

More than happy to be proven wrong here - he's doing the right thing heading to Lancs, and if he can put together a disciplined season with them he'll be ideally placed.
