I'm a bit puzzled to see Gary Ablett (jnr.) and Terry Daniher on the list, since they are both Premiership players. Ablett has also played for two clubs, but has the asterisk against his name.

Edit: Scott Thompson 308 (Melb./Adel.), John "Sam" Newman 300* and Rohan Smith 300* are other players with 300+ games who failed to win a Premiership.

For those claiming a flag, Brett Harvey has 432 games over 21 seasons for 235 wins. For that effort he has one premiership
Next in the games played is Michael Tuck, 426 games over 20 seasons for 302 wins. Those 67 extra wins (3.3 extra for 20.3 wins per season) delivered an extra six premierships. Right place, right time.

Michael Tuck is the only player in AFL/VFL history to have played in over 300 winning games of football.

Can't see anyone else getting within cooee of it tbh.
 
If you were looking for the player to experience the least team success in a long-term career it would probably be hard to go past Jeff Hogg, who played at Richmond from 1986-1993, and Fitzroy from 1994-1996. All of the Tiger and Lion teams Jeff Hogg represented were bottom 4 sides with wooden spoons at Richmond in 1987 & 1989 and Fitzroy in 1995 & 1996.

There are plenty of other 200 game players who did not play a finals match in their career, but in most cases these players were in some mid ladder teams while others were part of teams that did make the finals but the player didn't play in the finals games.

Ted Pool; A rover who played 200 games for Hawthorn from 1926-1938 for 13 seasons (Then the Mayblooms), has a 42 wins, 1 draw, 157 losses record over that stretch at a paltry 21.25 winning %....Which I believe is the worst of any player to have played in 200 VFL/AFL games of football or more....He also never saw finals, as it took until 1957 for Hawthorn to finally make an appearance.

For the record: Hogg played in 184 games for a 45 win, 139 loss record, going at 24.46 %.....So very close, but no cigar.
 
I'd heard of Ted Pool, but I mistakenly thought he played in the 1930s and 1940s and therefore was part of the Hawthorn 1943 team that came just 1 kick away from qualifying for the finals that year. Some North Melbourne players of the 1920s and 1930s played their entire careers in some pretty awful teams, but in a couple of years during this era North did manage to have seasons with a respectable 8-10 record and a mid-ladder finish before sliding back down to the bottom, so the Kangaroos weren't as consistently bad as Hawthorn.

As bad as the Mayblooms were during that era, from our inception into the league in 1925 on up until 1950. If it weren't for the presence of Saint Kilda, then we'd have taken home twice as many wooden spoons as we did.

Pool is only 1 of 3 Hawthorn players to have played in 200 games or more without winning a premiership.....The other 2 being Mark Graham (223 games & 7 finals) & Ben Dixon, (203 games & 7 finals) who played during our recent 17 year drought.....Those 2 did however play in finals, coming closest to a Grand Final appearance in 2001, where we lost to Essendon in the Preliminary final, with no small thanks to umpires Goldspank & Vosso absolutely smashing us that day.....Dixon finished his career at the end of 2007, just missing out on the 2008 triumph the following season.....Hard luck.

I'd never of guessed that Burgoyne sits 3rd on that table on 242 wins....You'd reckon he should get to 250 this year, all things being equal.

Another season again & he's a good chance to catch KB for second.

He also sits on 35 finals, just 4 shy of Michael Tuck.....Still a chance there too with any luck.
 
SANFL player Ralph Sewer played 382 games - 325 for Woodville from 1969-1980 and 1984-1990 and 57 for Glenelg from 1981-1984 with no flag.

He has the rare achievements of playing senior football for 4 decades and playing as a grandfather, but a premiership eluded him for both the Warriors and the Tigers. Adding to the frustration, Glenelg won successive premierships in 1985-1986 after Sewer returned to his original team.
