Not the main reason but one of them, i seriously doubt he spends time at BP and if he does it will be because of injury or for just a limited time i actually predict more time in the guts not just the wing.

I'd like to see McGrath and Parish on-ball more often, both are quite good in close even though they're not big.
McGrath has brilliant side-to-side movement and awareness.

More I think about it, the more it appeals to me playing two genuine rucks. Having two specialist rucks will work wonders for out potential strong midfield group.

Bellchambers and McKernan also works, McKernan struggles against genuine first ruckmen but holds his own just fine against the substitute ones. He also offers a lot up forward which I’m not sure Clarke does.
I like this idea also. Particularly if Joe misses the 1st month or so, no harm in try 2 genuine rucks, with SMACK or Brown to play CHF and Stringer and Laverde - 192 and 191 cm respectively - can play deep forwards;-

Nah I like the different look Smack gives us when he goes into the ruck. He turns into a .4th midfielder once it hits the deck.

I’d happily continue to roll with Stringer as the second ruck. I don’t think he hurt our clearance differential at all.

Heppell on a halfback flank? I dont mind if he drifts back to help out but he starts in the guts surely. If gleeson isnt ready to go id prefer to see redman or ridley in that last hbf spot. Pigeons good back there as well if we need extra. If its a choice between myers or langford im going langford. But looks like they'll play both especially with Myers in the leadership group. Baguley i love as well but if a fit Begley or Laverde cant take his spot id be disappointed in both of them. Mitch Brown i like too and he rarely disappoints but i think if Joey, Mckernan and Stringer are all fit and firing, then they provide enough tall hit up targets and ruck back up. Another high pressure smaller player in for Brown to help lock it in our half.
Heppell would be awesome off a back flank. You can always throw him in to the guts for the second half of a game if needed and play Guelfi in defence. We now have the midfield depth to be able to do this. It also helps develop Parish and Langford as they step in to that no.1 mid role against the opposition best for larger periods of a game.
Playing midfield all year takes a heavy toll on Hep and he limps through the final rounds. From all accounts he hardly trained in the last half of the season in 2018. Start him off a back flank until the bye, then in to the midfield. It is certainly not a knock on Hep, more protecting him from himself so he can have an impact all season.
Agree that playing Smack and Brown, as well as Joey and TBC, might be too big and slow against some opposition, but then west coast just won a flag with 3 key talls forward and a ruck. If Joey is fit enough to pinch hit in the ruck then Smack is out unless he consistently plays at his best.

Half back is where we need the least amount of help. Could see Hepp finishing his career playing a BJ type role but for now he’s too valuable in the guts.

Why would we put Heppell on the back flank. He does not have the kicking skills to be a weapon and is not quick enough to be a true 3rd man up.
His best work is in the guts. He now has partners to help him and you want to move him. Madness.

Heppell off half back is basically a slower Gleeson.
Bit harsh I reckon. Even on the back flank Heppell is more prolific than Gleeson ever was and is much stronger in body which is one of Gleeson's big weaknesses. He is much slower though, agreed.
That being said I don't know why we would ever want him in any roles outside of inside midfielder.

Even in Gleeson best ever season (2017) he only managed to accumulate 296 possessions from 18 games = 16.4 possessions per game. Heppell has averaged more than even as a 1st year player on the half back flank. So I don't think there's any argument to be had here unless you take some arbitrary selection of Gleeson's best games ever and try to extrapolate that.

Didn't consider Begley untill he recovers from ACL. Once fit again he would probably work his way into the first string team with a eye on Stringer's role of form/ injury permits it.
Baguley and Dea are break glass in case of emergency types. If an experienced defender or pressure forward goes down they get a lock in over lesser experienced types.
Redman and McKenna jostling for the HB line spot with the other occupying a bench spot. Think Francis is deserving of a starting back 6 role, has a whole lot of upside left in him I think. Maybe becomes a bit like Goddard was off HB.
Starting midfield is fairly set in my mind. Smith, Parish, Langford, Laverde/ Myers all in that rotating/ seconf strength midfield mix.
McKernan/ the second tall is up for grabs. I've given it to McKernan early because he is a real second ruck who competes well, more suited to the ruck than Stewart and more suited as a forward than Zac Clarke.
I'd prefer Laverde to Myers but both have their strengths which can be utilised. If Langford comes on as hoped/ expected than Myers finds it harder to get an AFL game and becomes similar to a break glass in case of emergency player if say a Heppell misses.
Redman I had initially as a first stringer but hearing good reports out of pre season on him so he replaces Ambrose. Horses for courses type scenario, if playing a taller forward line Ambrose comes in for Redman or McKenna and offers key defensive/ tall defensive depth if Hurley, Hooker or Francis are unavailable.

You’ve done well. Only thing I would consider would be Guelfi over Laverde/Myers. Apart from that I’d say that’d be my best 22. Reckon Begley will be available pretty early so is probably worth considering. When healthy I reckon I’d have him close to Guelfi in that 22nd spot.

Hi, quick question. Looking at your midfield it's looking quite stacked with good talent. It appears that all of Merrett/Heppell/Smith/Shiel/Zaharakis/Myers/Langford will rotate through contests, which appear to be alot more than what a team can accomodate.
Would I be correct in assuming that Smith will play more forward and Merrett is likely to play more outside/wing now that you guys have Shiel as the clearance specialist and Langford as a developing inside mid?

Seems logical. Hard to know what exactly the coaching staff will do. Zaharakis could be the one that also goes forward. Langford still spends the majority of his playing time up forward so he may not moved from there.
