Carlton 99 if you mean from the season as whole.

On the day, can't go past Port in 07. But that Port 07 side wasn't the worst team of the list of R/Ups. Just came up against one of the better premiers of the era. Wasn't too different a side that won the 04 GF a few years earlier.

But if i had to select a side from that list that you think were lucky to make the GF, Carlton 99 for me.

Carlton were lucky to get to the prelim. Their performance in the prelim though against the bombers was one of a team that gave their all for each other - the pretty much played their grand final there and then, getting up the next week was always going to a tough ask. Lucky to get to a prelim yes but they deserved their appearance on GF day.

Port 07 weren't terrible. Had a very bad day and Geelong went into complete God mode.
I agree with this.
I think Geelong win that game much more often than not with that side, but you play the game 10 times and the 100 point margin doesn't occur more than once.

It was an outlier, the out of the blue game and it just happened to be on the GF.

Still Port 2007. Was a weak year overall with Port and West Coast 2nd & 3rd on 15 wins and North 4th on 14. Magnified by the record margin on GF day. 2007 wasn't the peak for Geelong, but it was the biggest gap they had to anyone else within a season.

I reckon at full strength we were the second best if not best team that year but faltered after the half way mark. Geelong would've made light work of us in the GF just as they did Port with the side we had on the park.
But you lost cousins and Judd in/just before the finals didn’t you?
Fully healthy I think you could’ve given them one hell of a fright.

That however also means that Port were 7-7 against the bottom 10. I don't know the numbers for other Grand Finalists in recent times but on the face of it that is a poor record. As stated before, Port were closer to eighth spot than to the top of the ladder in 2007.
Port in 2007 also lost to the bottom placed Carlton away..... Let that sink in.

Go look at the Collingwood side from 02/03 and tell me that isn’t the weakest. Other than Buckley it’s a godawful side
Well your mob lost to them in the 2002 QF and 2003 Prelim.

Collingwood of 2003 was a much stronger side in 2002.

While one Wakelin twin, played for Port, the other played for Collingwood. Both twins were goo defenders. James Clement was a good defender too.

Nathan Buckley was the main midfielder but Paul Lucuria was decent too.

Anthony Rocca and Chris Tarrant were the 2 main key forwards. Rocca got suspended for that stupid elbow on Brendon lade in the 2003 prelim.

Leon Davis and Alan Didak were the 2 small forwards.

This is the only post where Pies supporters aren't claiming the number one position, best midfield forward line etc - fact is they are the weakest in this case.
Maybe one of them can tells us when the last side lost GF after being 31pts in front. Hate rehashing old history but how about 1970 - guess who?

But, but, but we pantsed Tigers in the PF, doesn't that count?????

Lol also fake. 2002 were the much stronger Grand Final side, albeit ahead of the curve so not lauded by the media and blown up the way 2003 was.

Changes to the sides
In: Cole, Walker, Holland, Lokan, J Cloke, Woewodin, Kinnear, R Shaw
Out: Rocca, Lockyer, N Davis, Steinfort, Molloy, McKee, Betheras, Freeborn

Who TF voted Freo 2013? We weren't great but **** me we performed better than the Hawks next two opponents in their dynasty.

Our two halves, however, were chalk and cheese

First half - yes
Second half - no
The shitty weather meant the Hawks werent 6-7 goals up half time like they should have. You'd have been thumped like we were in 2015 in clear weather.
