Analysis AFC finances - Rich Club, Poor Club?

Exactly.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I think when The Shed was really popular the Footy Express and terminus wasn’t really set up hence most people were driving which gave supporters more ability to hang around after the games, once they were dependent on a bus they probably left straight after.
This dependence on busses has probably increased at AO and I’d assume even more people are leaving straight after.
If the club really wanted to test this they could hire out part of The Cathedral Hotel for supporters to go to. Sturt does/did this sometimes after AO games for presentations. I don’t think AFL clubs have presentations and I’m pretty sure they’re not open to the public.
This is such a non issue it’s not funny.
Helps you had to walk past it or close to get to most of the carparks IE Seaton high and football club or the streets around it

What does it say?

Basically an article asking 'how important is a club social base to the modern AFL fan', how badly Crows fans miss the Shed, how the AFC have failed in their promise to have a Shed equivalent at Adelaide Oval, how Port knows how vital their Game Day Village is to their supporters, how the members at the AMG last week disagreed with our boards stance on our social media and e-sports strategy instead of focusing on a Shed, could use some of our profit which includes $2 million in benefits from the SANFL towards a Shed, how board nominee Kym Ryder would have been muted with his request for a game day social base vs our 'low risk, high profit' approach.

For me this is such a non-issue. You have Adelaide Oval, one of the best venues in the world, with many spots to socialise inside of it (Top Decks of Southern and Eastern Grandstands, Magarey Room, the Hill / Old Scoreboard, lower level of all Grandstands, the many bars around the ground and the if you're lucky enough The Audi Stadium Club) and you have the Magarey Room open after every home game for post match preso's.
You have all the bars / pubs inside the Adelaide CBD where you can socialise. I see many still have their drinks and food in the Adelaide Oval car park. Not to mention the multiple options of transport to and from the ground.
The Shed worked in a time where everyone drove to Football Park, you went there or you sat in the car listening to KG and Cornsey while you waited to get out of the car-park, it's not required in the year 2018.

Well, we are a bigger, more successful, richer, more attended, higher membership club, so it's not surprising.
No thats not it.

Its that the only narrative a Port person like Kane can use to talk us down is that we lack culture, etc. Therefore this is a way to build that narrative, despite his club full of culture not doing anything differently in this case.

Ironically, the Shed was more likely to succeed at West Lakes. With bugger all public transport, it was no picnic sitting in the traffic, waiting to get out of the carparks. My mates and I would go to the Shed for a couple of drinks and wait for the traffic to clear.

At Adelaide Oval most people disperse quickly to the trains, trams and buses. It is also easier to get out of the Adelaide Oval carparks. We usually get to the oval before the gates open to secure a good(ish) seat in the Western Stand and then enjoy a BBQ and drink in the carpark. As a person that used to go to the shed at West Lakes, I can’t think of a good reason to go to a Shed in the CBD regardless of where it was situated.
But but but clubrooms something something, community something something.

Port supporters, Rucci and Kornes can all SMD. Port do exactly the same as the Crows post match at AO. ****ing tools.

Edit:
Port do do exactly the same as Crows post match....except celebrate anywhere near as many wins.:)

Unless this mythical shed is built literally on the pedestrian bridge, i aint going. The die hards already have the Magarey Room, the drunkards have dozens of places to sink some pints within 10min walking distance of the gates, why do we need anywhere else? For what purpose?
Sure I'd prefer to give my drinking money to the club. But let's be honest I ain't walking more than 2min out of my route back to town / trains to do it.

2 minutes is pushing it.

I'll walk 50 metres.

The Magarey room and adjacent (Carey & Kerley?) bars are great spots to mingle after the game. It is at the ground, atmosphere is good, there is a view over the oval, and the space is really flexible to cater for larger or smaller numbers depending on the match. This is as good as it gets, folks. If we moved it, I for one would consider it a downgrade.

I don’t understand what the problem is?

Is it cost of drinks?

TWO of South Australia’s biggest sporting clubs, footy’s Adelaide Crows and basketball’s Adelaide 36ers, are in talks about joining forces.

Discussions have centred on a commercial partnership that may lead to the Crows owning a stake in the NBL club that is one win away from this season’s grand final.

According to multiple sources, talks have been ongoing and positive but nothing has been signed.

The NBL is aware of the talks.

While both parties declined to comment when contacted by The Advertiserthis week, the Crows stressed that an ownership proposal had not been discussed.

While not a Barcelona-style super-club arrangement, it’s understood the proposed partnership between the Crows and 36ers would include marketing and membership cross-promotion, shared resources and would provide the Crows with an international reach.

Apart from basketball being an international sport, the 36ers have close ties to Singapore, where owner Grant Kelley has done business and where the team played and won the Merlion Cup in the off-season.

The Crows have made no secret of their off-field strategy to find “new revenue streams” as evidenced by acquiring an eSports team last year.

AFL clubs are increasingly venturing into other codes. Collingwood and GWS last year launched netball teams in the national competition, while the NBL has spoken with AFL clubs about fielding teams in an expanded league next year.

Don't the 36ers skate on the brink of bankruptcy most of the time?

They're like Port without the handouts
According to Boti Nagy, part of the deal potentially includes the 36ers cutting costs by outsourcing things like marketing, membership, medical and training staff to us, which adds another revenue stream for us. Also in return, if the 36ers get a new stadium in Memorial Drive, we'll get a say in how that goes about.
