New MLS kit time.

And a couple o new 'clubs.' New Nashville logo on the right.

I think the fact both teams are using 'SC' as a moniker is kind of lazy. I get that it's better than affixing some vague term – Real Salt Lake is a pisser, it's the most white, churchy state in the country – but it's benign. It's especially disappointing when one team's from Nashville. You say Nash, I say music. Everyone has that association. Some of the possible names were a bit too on the nose (Beat, Sound) while others were out there and pretty minor-league Baseball-y (Honky Tonkers). I don't know what the right suggestion could have been, but I'm not from Nashville nor am I getting paid to think of a name.

Anyway, the new Timbers strip is sick. Always loved their look. I usually hate gold on soccer shirts – kind of cheap masquerading as 'classy' – but it always looks right next to that perfect shade of green. Cool logo too. The fact the new strip has interchangeable shorts and that both work seamlessly is smart as well. Like, how they're tied by the gold three-stripes.

I agree about the Timbers overall look, but honestly I'm not huge on the new kit. It's nice, could have been a LOT worse. But it feels lazy, like a straight up adidas template kit.

Nah it's not a template, but it's interesting you say that considering basically every other kit is...

The Minnesota one is so bad. It's supposed to like, look like snow? When I first saw it all dolled up for a promo shoot, I thought it was actually really smart. Then you realise the snow effect is just... snow on top... what could've been y'all.

LOOKS like. But yeah, those examples are pretty terrible. Minnesota absolutely missed a trick there...

All of these sitting together shows the real downside of league-wide sponsorships. All but three (LA Galaxy, Vancouver Whitecaps, Toronto I think) are brand new away shirts and that's more than half the league. The MLS has a two year strip policy that has an overlap, so half the teams get new aways when the others get new homes. I can't be arsed looking, but I'd imagine there's a lot more white carrying over from last year.

A while ago, teams like the Timbers were trying to mandate away colours (they used an Arsenal strip, basically) while Philadelphia Union carried over their gold middle panel.

Serves the pricks right.

May I ask that if you vote you select Black and White, keeping the name Macarthur, and maybe suggesting the name Macarthur Athletic.

Great to see pink in there as an option. I've always liked the Palermo look.

How good is the Barcelona strip for their game against Real Madrid?

******* good.

No sponsor, outline on the Nike swoosh, proper stripes, piping on the sleeves. Unreal how Nike can just dish this out for one game because it's basically perfect.

I think this was supposed to be a surprise when the team walked out this weekend, pity it's leaked but they b the times.

Encouraging for 2019/2020 though. There's talk of Nike using the classic old wordmark and swoosh logo, using those wishbone sort of 90s collars, and actually making the shirts look like they're from the 90s as opposed to 'inspired' by them. I reckon I'll end up grabbing multiple strips, especially if PSG end up with some of the designs being rumoured.

Really interesting scenario has been unfolding over the last 24-48 hours which has seen Melbourne Victory wear a sponsor-less (and front number-less) away shirt with their home shorts and socks at AAMI Park Melbourne Rectangular Stadium tonight.

Yesterday, Melbourne Victory had a photo op to show off their new kit sponsor for the ACL. Weirdly, there was no official announcement until today, when they proudly proclaimed their partnership with "Kaishi Entertainment", a Hong Kong-based media agency. But the photos from yesterday were already out, and people (largely those on #sokkahtwitter) had done some sleuthing to work out what the Chinese logo represented. It was quickly determined to be the logo of Kashbet, a Hong Kong-based betting agency.

Kashbet would be a problematic sponsor for two reasons. Firstly, AFC rules forbid gambling sponsorship (though there is some confusion as to whether shirt sponsors are in fact exempt from that). And secondly, MVFC is partnered with the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation, in which part of the deal is that they would not accept sponsorship money from betting companies. In fact, just one week ago, MVFC CEO Trent Jacobs was on SEN discussing how proud the club was that they had no gambling or alcohol sponsors.

Melbourne Victory went into damage control today, firstly trying to assure fans that although the Chinese text was similar, they were definitely different companies. But further investigations by Joe Public showed that:

- The woman representing Kaishi at the kit launch was also present at a kit launch for Bayer Leverkusen... for a Kashbet sponsorship deal;
- There was very little information anywhere on the internet for a Kaishi Entertainment;
- What eventually was found, was a cheaply put together site with a picture of the Kaishi "chairman", which was proven to simply be a stock image.

Finally, MVFC put out a statement tonight to say that they would continue to investigate to ensure that the sponsorship was not linked to Kashbet, and in the interim would play tonight without the sponsor. I assume they are wearing their away shirt because they didn't have any home shirts without the sponsor applied.

All in all, a very embarrassing situation for Melbourne Victory. Will be interesting to see in the washup whether they were hoodwinked by a company looking to get their betting company exposure via back door measures, or whether they were complicit in it all, just hoping nobody would notice.

ALL THAT SAID..... the kit combo looked absolutely brilliant! Thankfully there was no clash with Daegu's sky blue kits.

Top work by the twitter brigade, surprised that teams are allowed sponsors at all though when the AFC can't allow a bottle of soap to have a logo on it...

Hah wow, that Victory thing. Classic Aussie soccer.

The Western United logo is like those really really crappy, generic ones they've churned out for the few new MLS teams in Nashville and Austin (who are called like Nashville SC and Austin FC...). They either only had a few weeks to design a logo or the name and colours (and logo) were all decided on well before the vote was complete. Or even went up.

The AFC rules around sponsorship are ludicrous. Even last year, with Sydney FC playing at their home ground of Allianz Stadium, the "Allianz" lettering in the seats had to be covered up. This was despite the fact that Allianz were an official AFC sponsor and had their logo on the advertising hoardings and sponsor backdrops.

Going by that ruling, would it mean that a team could not be sponsored by Star, Crown, Skycity? Technically they are entertainment groups that offer more than just casinos?

Sydney don’t use the Star as their sponsor in the ACL, and the only reason Victory can’t use them full stop is due to their partnership with the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation, not some A-League regulation.

Would be three reasons. Advertising could be in contravention of laws prohibiting advertising foreign betting agencies.

Very true. Im sure the star would love to advertise on the acl jumper, if it weren’t for the afc rule (and potentially monetary gain) they would have jumped at the chance.
