With no demand for an afl team in Gold Coast as has been evident from the lack of supporters and horrible performances from the actual club that seem out of touch with the rest if the league could we move them to a place where they would be wanted and rename them, or give the tassie team the option to take any gold Coast players they want, cut the rest and get rid of gold coast and introduce an new tassie side because the culture at the suns is so toxic and awful, and the on field performances so terrible.

Wont happen. AFL wont admit they were wrong, and they're committed to making a long term investment to try and grow the game up there. They're not going to cut that to move a team into a money pit that wont grow the game at all.

Oh, and check the crowd numbers....Even with their crappy results, GC is bigger than GWS, so if you're talking 'no demand' you're killing off the wrong club...(and to be clear, I don't think GWS will be cut either).

Shut it, Mr Original.

Not claiming to be an original idea, just pointing out the obvious. Gold Coast expansion has been a compete and utter money draining failure for the afl.
Junior participation numbers on the Gold Coast might suggest different.

More kids are playing footy up there since they club joined and the afl aren’t losing money on them being there either

I hate how people equate on field performance with viability off field. How is the location of the Suns relevant to how terrible they are on the field? Would being in Tasmania have prevented Rory Thompson getting an ACL injury? Would each player magically become 10% better living in Tasmania?

Go easy on the boy. Doesn’t know how to use the search function where many have put some actual thought into the OP.

That's why I said you don't keep the same team. You give thebtassie team the choice of suns players they want, and create their own team from scratch while dissolving the suns.

Titans, United, Blaze, Bears, Suns.

Of course location is relevant.

The Gold Coast is a grave yard for professional sports clubs.

Junior participation is irrelevant. The numbers are bullshit. Auskick is seen as free child sitting.

If 'junior participation' numbers actually meant anything then pro Netballers would all be on $2 million a year.

The OP is spot on. Those shooting him down are just echoing the AFL company line. The Suns are a huge basket case and the AFL cant admit it made a huge mistake. This is the mistake of Andrew Demetriou who has proven to be a man of terrible judgment and zero integrity.

Of course the AFL is losing money up there.

What are you basing this on?

The AFL persisted with the Swans when logically it was time to give up. Now you want to eliminate the Suns at an early stage in what was always the long game.
