Prospect is the obvious closed session oval if we’re housed in the parklands. Brilliant spot and great oval.
How are you going to have afc’s Multiple teams and North Adelaide’s multiple teams all training, showering parking at one suburban oval? Including now women’s teams.

I personally really liked the Adelaide Uni grounds (council waste facility) proposal. Perfect location, short 15-20 minute walk. Could add a bus route and drop off point if too far for people.
Might get a bit awkward when Port want to do their 2.2km time trial at the uni loop but.. does anyone really care what Port want?

It's crazy how much wasted space we have in these parklands.

What's the deal with the horse stables in the parkland 6?? Who owns these horses and how did they get to have their stables here? Surely this area could be used for a better purpose than this...

Footlights college Oxbridge agist there ponies there.

There won't always be parklands if you let commercial developments happen on them.

By all means force both levels of governments to do better by the parklands, and allow publicly owned developments if they are of sufficient benefit to the public, but as soon as you let a corporation own a piece and develop it, the rest will absolutely follow in time, because that's how commercial interests work - they consume that which belongs to the public for the benefit of the few, and they keep doing it until there's nothing left.

There has been a restaurant in the southern parklands, just off KW Road for as long as I can remember.

Can you point me to the dozens of other restaurants that have popped up in the parklands, cos you know once you have one the others will follow.

There’s 3 commercial outlets in Vic park (near the roundabout)

Bloke here at work just said that the developers that own the land are keen to see us gone. He lives in that development. Demand for that housing better than expected when initial deal was done.

He is a Port supporter and a bit filthy that he can see it all lining up that we will have a good facility and little debt to pay for it.

I am predicting funding would be.

Commercial funds ie loan.
Proceeds from leaving West Lakes. Developers buy out our lease and buy our facility and the land it sits on.

Joint venture with ACCC

Government funding associated with the Joint Funding with ACCC ie the Community use concept
Government funding in regards to womans sport.

We should build a new centre and keep the lease just to piss off the flogs.
Make them give us money for the development or stay another 40 years your choice....

The restaurant is a tenant in a building owned by the council

Also tenants of council owned heritage buildings.

If this goes ahead it better not be half baked. Go hard or go home. Additionally Crows should be sticking their nose in the tram extension debate. A tram to end of O'Connell st would entice more fans to head back to club after games from a stop outside AO.

But surely this model would have seen the council succumb to the greedy commercial bastards and their would be similar set ups all over the parklands?

Or have you come down from your paranoid high?

The parklands see more use during Feb/Mar than any time during the year. We need more community based activities promoted all year round.
If that means a couple of grandstands for a car race or another sporting facility that can be used by all so be it.

Dry unkept spaces around the city is such a waste for us all.

The parklands could be better utilised and maintained for sure, but commercial development is not the answer.

Just curious because I have a foot in both camps.

Are you against the AFC setting up shop in the parklands? Assuming it will be a shared facility.

Do you see the Clipsal/Fringe/Womad as corporate exercises?

Also known as "third way", tory-lite. An ultimately failed attempt to blend socialist planning with free market capitalism, which ultimately led to the gutting of society across the anglosphere - Keating & Hawke, Tony Blair, Bill Clinton - with the public assets transferred for a pittance to the ownership of the few, later known as 1%ers, for their maximum profit. It was a disaster, and the only people still pushing it are the leeches who profit from it.

What amuses me with u Rabbit is that u will occasionally pull this s**t out to remind everyone on here how educated and well informed u are...yet u are the worst judge of football talent on this website or possibly even in the history of the world. And yet u should be smart enough to realise this?! 🤪
And u still post on a public football forum?!

I thought our AFL team would mostly train throughout the day whereas the semi-professional teams would be mostly after business hours.

Oh, so if the council builds in the parklands and lease it to commercial interests it is ok.

But if the commercial interest builds their building it is "won't someone think of the parklands".

Seems like the solution is to get the council to build our facility while we use it!

False folklore, and a self serving lie.

The parklands house sporting and cultural events year round, and are used as a place of recreation by both residents and workers. The only people who want to commercially develop over the top of them are the ones who want to profit from the destruction of a key part of the city. There are plenty of underdeveloped places within the CBD square that can be developed, it just costs more, which is anathema to the goal of maximum short term profit. As soon as commercial development broke ground in the parklands, the car parking king would break ground on a new multistory car park in every block, at a time when we should be reducing car parks in the CBD.

If the council want to allow us to lease the land to build a new HQ, on the proviso that we continue to operate the Aquatic Centre replacement as a community facility, then that's fine. Can't say I particularly care if there's a shed replacement, I'd never go if there was anyway, I prefer to head into a city bar.
You're gonna be mad when it trickles through to you that the council is currently trying to expand and cheapen carparking in the city to bring life back to the city

Yawn. I've been more consistently right than just about anyone else here, but you people keep trotting out the same old lines like a tiring bunch of baptists, unwilling to accept reality.

They're reducing on street car parking actually, which is an overdue start. Can't remove the multistories that are already there. Better public transport is what brings life back to the city, as the tram expansions have undeniably demonstrated. Just need the state government to keep up the tram construction, and at the very least not * up the buses, if not improve the network (Narrator: they're currently ******* up the buses)

Seems like the solution is to get the council to build our facility while we use it!

The solution is to take on a lease of the site and run it as a community interest on behalf of the council while using it as a HQ, based on the tenuous notion that the AFC is a community organisation and not a commercial entity. All the clubs are, according to the ATO.

He’s still campaigning to stop footy at AO

Half of my concerns did not eventuate, as they did not turn it into a featureless, indistinct bowl. Fair is fair, I got that wrong.

However, the other half of my concerns ended up being an understatement - not only did the worthless leaders at SACA use it as a chance for self aggrandisement, but everyone took it one step further as the SACA, SANFL, and SMA have used the opportunity to line their own pockets through greed and corruption, at the expense of both the two AFL clubs, and the tax payers of the state.
