This is my round 1 team...

B: Howe (191), Roughead (200), Langdon (189)
HB: Aish (183), Moore (203), Maynard (189)
C: Sidebottom (185), Treloar (182), Phillips (187)
HF: Stephenson (188), Mihochek (192), Varcoe (181)
F: Elliott (178), Cox (211), De Goey (191)
R: Grundy (204), Beams (187), Pendles (191)
INT: Brown (178), Thomas (178), Crisp (191), Sier (191).

Bucks will fit in Greenwood, Mayne and possibly Goldsack somehow.

Still not convinced on Greenwood as a small defender and Goldsack back to the future 5 maybe 6 as a pressure forward again.

Is Moore really 203cm?

The perfect match-up for Ratugolea. Reach, speed and height.

Interesting, I thought he was shorter than that.

That what I thought. Moore be perfect match up for Ratugolea

What are the numbers next to the name?

Got a feeling a vfl start for Sier , brown might be ahead of him
If it’s Brown C v Sier I hope they can compete play it out at training.
Bear would eat Brown as a snack food o_O

In = De Goey, Sier, Stephenson

Out = Brown, Goldsack, Crocker

I’d be running with:

B: Howe, Roughead, Langdon
HB: Crisp, Moore, Maynard
C: Phillips, Treloar, Sidebottom
HF: Thomas, Mihocek, Stephenson
F: Elliott, Cox, De Goey
R: Grundy, Pendlebury, Beams
INT: Varcoe, Sier, Aish, Goldsack

Goldsack only for the swingman role if we need support at either end.

In = De Goey, Sier, Stephenson

Out = Brown, Goldsack, Crocker
I sort of think of who is in and out using the GF team as the starting base point.

It’s realy really really tough to pick. We have a huge depth of good medium level talent in particular.

So taking into account who MUST come in:

Beams is just in, the most obvious of obvious.

Elliott is a must in too.

Moore is a must in too.

For me, those three are certainties.

Hence three must go out, which might be by position or which three are expendable (at least in ways)
AND injury ofcourse.

The obvious is injury outs:

Taylor Adams, Will Hoskin-Elliott.

They are replaced by Beams and Elliott.

So one more in danger is Mr 100% competitor, but for me way too fumbling (especially forward) in Goldsack.
I really like him, but, and it’s a bit but, as a side isn’t it time we went past him?
This then leaves for me the vexed question who moves it for the full back in Roughead.
I assume Roughead plays as the rock down back with him also assisting in the ruck if required.

I’m suggesting Greenwood. Yes there’s Selwood but I’d rather give such a roll to Sier and Maynard, that kind of set up.

As a side note, Mihocek might find himself in danger if there’s a string of lesser games.

So for me:

In: Beams, Elliott, Moore, Roughead.
Out: Adams, Hoskin-Elliott (injured), Goldsack, Greenwood.

Round 1:

B. T Langdon ~ J Roughead ~ B Maynard
HB: J Howe ~ D Moore ~ J Crisp
C. S Sidebottom ~ D Beams ~ T Phillips
HF. J Stephenson ~ J De Goey ~ T Varcoe
F. J Elliott ~ M Cox ~ J Thomas
R. B Grundy ~ S Pendlebury (c) ~ A Treloar
I. B Mihocek ~ B Sier ~ C Mayne ~ J Aish

E. T Goldsack, L Greenwood, J Daicos, C Brown

Just for the excercise and for fun, here is our leftover players lined up in a seconds side.
Obviously the injured are included so Adams would certainly be in the firsts but this just shows the side not competing in my round 1 team.

B. M Scharenberg. L Dunn. F Appelby
HB. N Murphy. T Goldsack. I Quaynor
C. C Brown. L Greenwood. T Brown
HF. W Hoskin-Elliott. B Reid. J Daicos
F. B Crocker. R Wills. T Broomhead
R. M Lynch. D Wells. T Adams (c)
I. W Kelly. J Madgen. A Bosenavulagi. S Murray*

E. M Keane, A Toehill

You have Aish in ahead of Crisp. This must be an attempt at humour.

If they are on the bench that’s (these days) same same.

Still strange to have one of the best HB's in the game and in top form not in your starting 18. Why would you do it?
I like lining up players in position but what looks good on the eye so to speak.

Eg on an interchange bench a taller player eg Mihocek looks better listed first than a smaller player eg Aish.
Just looks better.

I cringed when the teams named on afl.com had Cox on the centre when Cox should always be forward.

Fair enough with a star midfielder..but a back flanker?

It’s a back 7 these days don’t think it matters. Depends on match ups to start the game I’m guessing. I thought Aish was pretty good today.
