That's what I don't get. There is a plethora of pubs in the city the club could organize something through to replace the GDV. People would go there, all they'd have to do is negotiate with a pub. Why they haven't done this I don't know.

You are missing the point. The beauty of the GDV is that it was virtually at the ground. It was easy to access a beer at halftime if you felt inclined. True, there are plenty of pubs in the city but those close enough are all doing a good trade pre and post match without the need to cut the PAFC in for a share of their takings. If we are going to emulate the old GDV it has to be within five minutes walk of the gate. We were buying a beer for $5-6 a can at the GDV and I doubt that any publican is going to sell beer at that price on a footy day.

Last year after the game I called into the bar at the Casino where I paid $10 for a pint. It was a craft porter beer but it still cost more than a beer in the
ground. I have also had beer in a couple of the bars and pubs around the Riverbank and North Terrace and they were not that much cheaper than drinking in the ground. If you are going to pay $8.50 to $9 a pint you may as well drink at the ground.

People suggesting venues in the CBD do not really appreciate what we have lost. The GDV virtually emulated what we had at Alberton. An easily accessible bar during, before and after the game with cheap beer where the bulk of the profit went back to the PAFC. Emulating that is no easy task.

I've got the point, how could I not, it was a suggestion considering what everyone loved isn't going to be there for at least a season.

Obviously it won't work, it isn't the same and all of that bollocks so the point is mute anyway.

Someone needs to collate all the media data about this (print and electronic) and present it all to the Commission, to show what lying scum the SMA are.
Media reporting of the objections lodged by the SMA to the GDV's liquor licence have as much validity as posts about them on HumongousSherrin. Surely a Parliamentary Select Committee has the power to obtain the relevant documents from the Department of Consumer and Business Affairs or at least obtain confirmation of their existence from an officer of CBA.

Port Adelaide Magpies!
I think the club looked at that. ACC would oppose the liquor licence even more than the say they had at the GDV.
TPG (hard stand & building) is not under the control of ACC (DPTI I think). The surrounding park/gardens are managed by ACC. I'm not sure the ACC would/could object to this location; it's similar to other activities permitted on adjacent/nearby Park Lands anyway. In any event, let's hope we can get it running properly under PAFC control at the tennis centre when the upgrade is complete.

That's almost all too simple

Transfering this from the stadium deals thread.

Port said they only want to comment whilst under the protection of the review.

The SMA have obviously threatened law suits.

Or we are giving them enough rope to continue making outlandish statements.

Daniels keeps refining them, to now only talk about 2018-2019 period and ignores the 2014-2017 years.

Today on ABC Radio' breakfast program regular Friday politics spin cycle segment, where they get 3 journos in to look at the week in politics, they looked at Select Committee's inquiry into the AO Hotel and discussed the row between KT and Daniels.

Now this discussion is mainly looking at the politics in play, but it shows how this is being played out and interpreted. ABC's David Bevan starts off saying "it's gone places" and Mike Smithson says its great entertainment, as he is normally bored down at these meetings. 2 other journo's are Tori Shepherd from 'Tsier and Michael Owen The Australian's SA bureau chief.

Smithson is right that this is going way off script, what the 2 clubs really think of the SMA has been revealed and is part of the clubs wanting more of say over running of AO. Said Fagan's written submission was scathing of structure of SMA but said Fagan went slightly weak at the knees, and at the hearing he said he would treat this with some blandness. Said KT went down and turned into - did SMA lock Port out of their Village Green (sic) that they set up, SMA basically ran them out of town, and Daniels then effectively called KT a liar. Ali Clarke then said KT then wouldn't speak from that point on.

Smithson reckons one of them is not telling the truth. Michael Owen then says its sounds tedious and wants to look at the politics and how it helps the opposition. Then talk about the tension between the most powerful people in sport in the state and someone has spoken to David Bevan and he criticizes the clubs wanting more power. Owen reckons the selling out the Hotel lease if it's not profitable, was the real story of the week out of this. Then analysis of the SMA and its power, and Labor fighting it.

Smithson stresses that what comes out of this inquiry is the tension between SMA and 2 clubs, which he reckons the punters were blissfully unaware of the tension. Well a lot of us were bloody aware of it Smitho. Maybe you weren't. Smitho wants cheaper beer and food at AO! Then David Bevan goes on about how hard it is for the average punters trying to get voted onto the crows or Port board.

Smithson finishes off with - "David for too long the SMA thinks it runs this state, not just Adelaide Oval. That's my opinion!" Then they move onto school zones.

This hearing has been great for us and the crows in the sense that we’ve forced the SMA to show their hand while doing nothing more than stating a few facts about dealings with them. Their public image is taking a huge hit and it’s mostly their own doing.

I really think we need to ensure we use this opportunity to get that seat on the board. It’s the only way to make sure we aren’t going to be taken for a ride at every opportunity

John Olsen is SNAFL president and a member of the board of the SMA which is effectively an SNAFL SACA joint venture. The same guy that was forced to resign as Premier of SA for misleading (lying to) parliament and was also found to have lied to a judicial inquiry.

Is anyone really surprised that an SMA employee may be telling porkies?

How this is allowed is a an absolute diisgrace, talk about having a conflict of interest.
The whole board should resign or be removed and be completely re governed so it includes it's major stake holders so they can have a say how much % of profits are split up between it's stake holders.

to be honest from the day that we found out we were moving to AO and that the AO was going to be overseen by the SMA which had Olsen on the board i knew they would be every bit as corrupt as the SANFL were.
This was 100% stamped confirmed the day the SMA appointed Hurley to the board

The Government needs to make the $40 million loan conditional on the makeup of the SMA to be changed to give our 2 clubs a seat at the expense of 2 SANFL ones.

The only way the SMA would agree to a change is with Government dangling money under their noses.

Not just the 2 AFL clubs, but every major stake holder a spot on the committee, and it must come with Olsen, Daniels & Hurley's removal from there positions on the board.

Playing Devil's Advocate, but on what planet will a State Liberal Government seek to remove the President of the State Liberal Party who was the strategist behind their first election win in 17 years.

In a world free of nepotism, corruption and boys' clubs. So unfortunately not this one. Especially not in SA.

You're right, it's more wishful thinking on my behalf that that'll ever happen even though it should.

Ok lets get some of this down rather than just have the link. Port might have just started the slow drip feed to the media. They use the word Exclusive and email obtained. How did they obtain it?? ;)

EXCLUSIVE | Adelaide Oval Stadium Management Authority told Port Adelaide as early as 2014 to raise beer prices at the Game Day Village and demanded it stop selling Coopers products – because it undermined sales of a competitor’s more expensive beer inside the oval. Last week, AOSMA chief executive Andrew Daniels furiously denied claims, by Port Adelaide Football Club, that his organisation had undermined the popular pre-game (and post-game) venue because it presented “competition” by selling cheaper beer.

However, InDaily can reveal that AOSMA threatened to close off an entrance to the venue unless Port Adelaide addressed its concerns about pricing, among other worries, as early as June 2014. An email obtained by InDaily, from AOSMA general manager Darren Chandler to Port Adelaide Football Club chief operating officer Stephen Dawes, dated 3 June 2014, says the authority was concerned by both the sale of Coopers beer and its pricing within the venue:

“(AOSMA) will not continue to allow access to this area directly off the Southern Plaza unless these matters are addressed.
1. All branding should be removed from this area.
2. Lion products must be the only beer and cider products to be sold from this area and any other products must be approved by AOSMA.
3. The pricing must be the same as that of Adelaide Oval.”

The email continues: “This may seem harsh but AOSMA cannot be seen to be endorsing a competitor of one of our major partners and we will not help facilitate an operation on our doorstep that is significantly undercutting the catering operation of AOSMA”. In response to the email, Dawes said Port Adelaide only priced the beer so cheaply because it had spare stock from another event, and that “going forward, we will revert to some higher beer pricing more in line with stadium pieces (but equivalent to vessel size)”. The Game Day Village – which was branded the ‘Legends Bar’ when it was first established in 2014 – sets up on Tennis SA land just outside Adelaide Oval.
