Yeah well, Bryce Gibbs.
I totally see how a son of a west Australian who played 260 games for Glenelg in the sanfl is the same as a 4x premiership port Adelaide legend.

Yeah well, Bryce Gibbs.
it has everything to do with the 200 SANFL game eligibility criteria set by the AFL. Ross gibbs player more than 200 SANFL games but as some were escort cup games etc, they only counted the league games and he fell a few games short and thus under the rules, Bryce Gibbs was not able to be selected by the crows. Daisy Borlace again did not meet the 200 game criteria which is the same criteria set for the crows so it is just pure luck that his son was born overseas and happens to play at Sturt (part of the crows NGA zoning) and as such qualifies. With no NGA, his son would just go to the draft like Bryce Gibbs had to. I think the story goes Michaelangelo Rucci was one of the main drivers in digging up game information re Ross Gibbs to ensure Bryce was not able to go to the crows. Ironic that maybe his efforts back then have ensured some games Daisy Borlace played are discounted leading to port missing out a potential topline father son prospect.I totally see how a son of a west Australian who played 260 games for Glenelg in the sanfl is the same as a 4x premiership port Adelaide legend.

But don't worry too much, if the AFL sees the crows likely benefiting bigtime from the NGA rules - they will change it..nothing surer
oh I agree that they screwed the SA clubs when setting up the criteria for father son. Players for Vic clubs only need 100 games to have their sons eligible whereas the crows and port had 200 games as the criteria for SANFL players. Now of course it is different with actual crow or power players that play 100 AFL games, their sons are eligible for father son like the rest of the comp, but the early rules certainly put us at a big disadvantageThe only tie Ross Gibbs has to the crows is that because the crows were new and had no ties to a historic club to generate father sons the afl and sanfl decided to split the sanfl clubs to each sa club.
From memory Glenelg was originally tied to Port under the scheme until Ross cracked the shits because he hated port from his days of playing against them and he didn’t want his son to play for them. They changed the alignment of clubs. Ironically if they hadn’t his son would have qualified for port as a f/s.
Any reasonable person could see why I scoff at the suggestion the crows were hard done by on missing out on Bryce, and why it’s not at all comparable to port missing out on a 4 time premiership captain with 270 games to see his son aligned to the crows because he was born overseas when his dad travelled for work.
And my god did they **** up those f/s eligibility rules for the sa clubs. Heads should have rolled for that.
From that both sa clubs pulled a combined 0. Yes 0 eligible father sons (because in hindsight Brett Ebert shouldn’t have been eligible, which is laughable because his dad one of the greatest port Adelaide legends).
Meanwhile Brisbane signed Jon brown because his aunts next door neighbour played for the Washington cardinals and Geelong has had more father sons than ports had trips to the MCG.
Quite normal , if SA setup AFL first then SA will screw other state up . Normal human and Organisations behaviour to be in control .oh I agree that they screwed the SA clubs when setting up the criteria for father son. What hurdle would you have set for the Crows? Which SANFL clubs, how many games?Players for Vic clubs only need 100 games to have their sons eligible whereas the crows and port had 200 games as the criteria for SANFL players.
For the crows and port when formed it would have been 100 games like it was for the vic clubsWhat hurdle would you have set for the Crows? Which SANFL clubs, how many games?
From how many SANFL clubs? For the crows and port when formed it would have been 100 games like it was for the vic clubs
4 each and when you consider the population of Adelaide is about 1/4 that of Victoria, it would have been about rightFrom how many SANFL clubs?
Were list sizes or talent levels a quarter of VFL clubs too?4 each and when you consider the population of Adelaide is about 1/4 that of Victoria, it would have been about right
Irrelevant as the VFL was a much stronger league and had many of SA's best players playing there. There was also a 20 year cap on the father son eligibility placed on the 2 SA clubs when formed - no such restrictions were ever placed on the VFL clubsWere list sizes or talent levels a quarter of VFL clubs too?
That's literally a demonstration of the relevance of my question. Was the SANFL so much weaker than the Crows needed four times the player pool that a VFL club would have?Irrelevant as the VFL was a much stronger league and had many of SA's best players playing there.
The SANFL was clearly the inferior competitionThat's literally a demonstration of the relevance of my question. Was the SANFL so much weaker than the Crows needed four times the player pool that a VFL club would have?
The crows and port were formed from what effectively was a second division competition and the talent level across the league was far less than it was in the VFL when it became the AFLThat's literally a demonstration of the relevance of my question. Was the SANFL so much weaker than the Crows needed four times the player pool that a VFL club would have?
No Mark Naley? He didn't hit the 100 games fir the Blues, but on his SA form at keast majes the best list IMO.By way of example in the 1980's the best SA players were Kernahan, Bradley, Platten, Motley, Maguinness, Tony Hall and Gary McIntosh. Only McIntosh stayed in SA with all the others leaving for the VFL and all apart from Motley played over 100 games at their VFL club and that meant that any of their sons would have been eligible only for the VIC clubs they played at - not the SA based clubs
yep - Mark Naley should be on my list as probably a few others as well like Steven Stretch and Craig KellyNo Mark Naley? He didn't hit the 100 games fir the Blues, but on his SA form at keast majes the best list IMO.

Which club tight to indigenous kids from NT .It should also be noted that Vic clubs get access to metro indigenous kids (and kids from NT) while sa clubs and I think wa clubs can only get indigenous kids from regional areas.
Which is bizarre.
Which club tight to indigenous kids from NT .
Some Vics supporters are so hilarious. The whole purpose of the academies was to provide a pathway for fringe prospects into the AFL, not elite talent.
I think that all academy players should be available to any club in the first (and maybe even 2nd) round(s) - no bid matching.
Only once an academy prospect is selected in the 2nd (or 3rd) round, should the club with academy rights have the ability to match the bid.
I also think that father-son should take precedence over academy - ie: Josh Blakey eligible as a F/S for North and Brisbane, but he chose Sydney as part of their academy. I dont think that is right.
But academies are a bit like welfare (and COLA) - once you have an entitlement, it is difficult to claw it back

Google it. It’s divided up between all the Vic clubs, except for North, who have Tassie. Can’t remember. One of the Vic clubs. Might be hawks don’t get Vic clubs but get nt boys instead. My memory might be wrong tho
Which is stupid to be honest.
If there is too many Vic teams they have to spread Victoria across them than **** em.
They enjoy all the benefits of having a Vic-Centric competition like playing home 80% of the year.
Shouldn’t be evened up in another area when it doesn’t suit them.
