Hopefully with both Swallow and Witts we have identified trustworthy clubmen (not Ablett) that they can front load those long term contracts in the next 2 years so that we can plan for long term signings of our draftees and future FA signings.Hopefully we didn’t over pay but great news anyway. Cameron seems to be a lot happier to sign players long term than the previous team
Locking up a arguably top 5 ruck for 5 years, Lovely.
From a supporters perspective it seems a bit long. But internally he is reportedly one of the most respected guys on the list, so much so that he's a dark horse to be our next Captain. Obviously that is stuff the public doesn't see. If he's rated that highly than having him here for life is a good thing.
He's a solid, B-level ruck. I suspect his salary across the 5 years will reflect that.
I rate him onfield a bit higher too tbh. I know most think he is B grade but I think hes going to be A grade in the next few years. I reckon hes about to hit his straps. He has only had 3 years of consistent game time in his whole career and hes been unbelievably hard to displace + reliable as hell. I think he will reach top 3 in the comp ruck level at some point.
He's played as many games with us in 2 seasons (40) as he did with the Magpies in his previous 5..... and he loves it here.....I think you might be right...
Disclaimer: I posted "here", meaning the Gold Coast....as I'm GC thru and thru, even though I'm not living there right now...
I can only imagine Miller stuck to the ceiling watching Zorko read the article while on the crapper.I'm just glad we get to watch him torment Dorko for at least another 3 years.
All the potential captains re-upping.
I'm starting to think Mark Evans is as good as everyone says he wasThe Suns appear to be getting their off field house in order. Great news.

I guess you don't rate Holman he isnt on the list lol
Contract is nothing nowadays .There is a trend in the AFL now where clubs are offering their top end draftees contract extensions really early in order to lock them in long-term.
With Rankine & Lukosious, the Suns would be smart to stick with the trend and try and lock them in for 5-years. The longer they stay at the club initially, the greater their friendships etc become and it will make it harder for them to leave overall.
We did this with Scrimshaw and Brodie, one is gone and the other likely at the end of the year. Locking them away means paying overs, plus if they don’t want to stay then c yaThere is a trend in the AFL now where clubs are offering their top end draftees contract extensions really early in order to lock them in long-term.

I'm not sure if it factors in with bargaining position, but these kids are "reported" to be signing for $350k - $400k for their 3rd and 4th season. If these kids are moving to another club, the kids aren't likely, or are not willingly, going to take a pay cut when they move.I'd definitely do the 4 years on Lukosius and Rankine, and probably King.
I know contracts are very breakable these days, but it does provide a bargaining position if they do want to leave. And with what most assume are pretty special talents, already with strong interest from Adelaide and St Kilda, IMO we should certainly give extensions early and back our rejuvenated club setup to help them deliver on potential.
