I would have given 1000/1 that Watts & McCarthy would have both been in the round 1 team of the week, yet it is a fair call.
Mind blown.

Did H.Taylor do more than A.Pearce based purely on their round one games?

Pearce did some really nice stuff defending and switching into attack, especially early when the game was still in the balance.

Those are some pretty selective stats there ;) Suprised you didnt include the main stat people look at when talking about ruckman (Hitouts Nankervis 34 McEvoy 23) and FWIW SC points Nank 127 McEvoy 102 but doesnt really matter. Both would be worthy candidates for the ruck spot in the highly prestigious round 1 rolling AA team. But if im biased Nank played the better game and was huge for us as was McEvoy for the Hawks.

Also its fine to compare stats but not really fair to use stuff like those player ratings or coaches votes from a single match because its 2 completely different matches and it depends on how well everyone else plays. Example hypothetically if you put Bont in that Crows Hawks game he easily takes the 10 votes off Worpel which would bump everyone else down.

Probably much of a muchness given they both got 4 coaches votes.
However you lose all your credibility when you don't even post hitout numbers for the ruck position. Don't pick and choose the only stats that make your player look better.

Pearce was good, but I reckon Taylor was more important for Geelong than Pearce was for Freo. He probably didnt have to do as much because the game was over early whereas the Cats game was hot until the last minute. I thught Taylor was huge shutting Cox out the game, won most of his one on ones. Wouldnt mind him in our backline this week for Cox

Eh, I don't rate hitouts unless they're clean hits to advantage which result in clear possession for the team. Not many ruckman do that with any regularity.

I've also noticed the Champion data points tend to overscore ruckman for their hitouts. Seen plenty of games where neither ruckman had much impact, yet they both score 110-120 points. It's garbage, I reckon.

Stats and supercoach scores bore no correlation to how well Richmond played from 2017-2018 (or Hawthorn from 2012-2015). Players from both our teams were well down the pecking order on those sorts of rankings and so they paid the penalty when it came to All Australian representation (which is largely stats-based.)

It also helps to play well in the games that everyone sees (Thurs/Fri/Sat night on Channel 7)
Players who do well on a Foxtel Saturday arvo game don't get as much credit from folks in this thread.

Anyway, I posted all that other stuff because the thread seemed to be a circle wank for Toby Nank. I just wanted to show that Ben McEvoy was very much in the conversation for best ruckman of Round 1. He has been great over the past 2 seasons, but he always seems to fly under the radar.

Fair points and Pearce probably didn't have the same pressure on him all game but still he was important for Freo. He only had 10 disposals (and only 2 marks) but of those 10 disposals: 8 were kicks, 8 were contested possessions and 8 rebound 50s. (plus 12 intercepts + 5 tackles)

And it felt like most were when North were still in it, he just kept getting the contested ball and getting it to our midfielders, the most attacking I've seen him play. Which was probably true about most Freo players yesterday. Anyway not disagreeing, great to see two guys starting the year so well.

From memory Champion Data give ruckman 0 for an ineffective hitout, and 4 points for an effective hitout.

At the end of the season Sicily (half back), Membrey (half forward), Gresham (forward pocket) and Tom Phillips (wing) will be All-Australians for the first time.
