Ankle sprain, no joint involvement, but still a couple of weeks and hard to predict the time frame.

Two Bombers who won’t be lining up this week are Jayden Laverde and Brandon Zerk-Thatcher, who suffered similar ankle injuries in the VFL team’s practice match victory over Sandringham last Saturday.

Crow said it is difficult to predict a timeframe for their return given the nature of the injury, but he was pleased to report there was no major damage.

“Brandon Zerk-Thatcher also had an ankle sprain. Again, fortunately, there was no syndesmosis involvement, but a reasonably significant sprain.

“He’ll be fighting hard to become available in the next couple of weeks.”

Building up to the VFL match week after next (so not available in the AFL until at least after that either).
Jayden Laverde and Brandon Zerk-Thatcher – who both suffered ankle injuries in the VFL team’s final practice match the weekend before last – will continue to build up their loads in the hope of a return for the VFL Bombers’ next match on April 20.

Looking away from the stats sheet for a moment and he was noticably quite poor by foot today. Constantly trying to kick whilst back peddling.

Was nice to see him get forward and kick a crucial goal that gave us hope so lots to still like about his game.
Yeah, is a poor kick. Bruno will jump in here and disagree but he is.

They think it was a knock, if he doesn't progress the way they expect it to then he'll get scans. 🤔 Hopefully he'll be available for the next match.

There are also positive signs that emerging key defender Brandon Zerk-Thatcher’s apparent hamstring injury suffered in the VFL on Sunday is not as bad as it first looked.

Zerk-Thatcher failed to return to the field in the impressive 69-point thumping of Port Melbourne, but testing suggests the young Don could still play this week.

“Brandon reported getting a knock to his upper hamstring/glute area and he was helped from the ground,” Crow said.

“All of our testing after the game suggests that that is what happened, that it’s a knock, so we’re quite confident that he will get up for this week following that knock.

“We’ll keep in the back of our minds that these things can present like a strain, so if he doesn’t progress as expected then we’ll get him scanned.

“But at the moment, we’re treating it as a knock to his upper hamstring/glute and we’re really hopeful that he can get up for the next match.”

why would you not scan it?

It's telling that my confidence level in the medical, conditioning and fitness staff at Essendon is at a point where I now fully expect him to play this week in the VFL and do a hamstring that puts him out for 8-10 weeks.

...and you have now done the same amount of diagnostic work our fitness team did.

Haha they probably got more from him doing some run throughs. If he wasn’t sore the next day I don’t think a scan would have been necessary otherwise scans would be probably be done every week for tough bumps. Don’t want to give them unnecessary radiation.
