As of right now, you'd still probably say Fyfe, Dangerfield and Martin make up the best trio of midfielders in the competition, but all three of them are now in their late 20s. Meanwhile Cripps, Bontempelli and Kelly all from the 2013 draft, all turn 24 this year, edging ever closer to their peak.

Are we nearing the point where these guys will be the next big 3 of the competition? And which trio of younger players are following in their steps?

Don't you just love it when someone points to team success as proof of individual player quality?

A clear sign the person doesn't know what they're talking about.

Bont B&F in a premiership year, AA in a premiership year... Kelly, Cripps still waiting September glory.

Exhibit A.

If you think Bont is better that's fine, but this is a lazy and frankly pathetic argument.

Try again.

You can't have it both ways. If the flag was his doing then the last two years of crap was too.
Who said the flag was his doing? He was the best player for our club all year in the year we won a flag while beating your mob in the PF, and AA in the same year. Won the B&F the following year too.

One year that was ordinary by his high standards, even though he clearly played very limited.

Enjoy Kelly this year, it’ll be the last year you see him in your colours anyway.

Pfft

Perhaps you could reply to my post, and save the precious nonsense.

3 years ago and has been backwards since.

Had an injured hip and subsequently had surgery afterwards. Started coming good last year and it showed with his output.

At the rate he’s started this season, it might only be another couple of rounds before most are reminded that the Bont is back to 100%

Jack Macrae should be in this discussion, just quietly.

Try again? Like what - Cripps flags 0 Bont flags 1 including B&F the same year.

Let’s be honest, we all judge players by the success they’ve had in a team environment and the individual accolades account for very little along the way.

Sorry to be pedantic but Tim Kelly was taken in the 2017 draft.

I don't need to try again - the point is very clear.

Well yeah, most would trade individual success for team success in an instant. But that's not the point you or I were making and you know it.

Only a Bulldog supporter would argue Zaine Cordy is a better footballer than Gary Ablett.

The rest of us understand premiership success doesn't define the individual footballer but rather the club as a whole at that point in time.
